Bank interest comparison

Post by whiteribbon »

Is there a bank interest comparison site in Cambodia?
I can not find one at all while these sites are very common in Europe. Somebody a bit tech savvy could make killing making one of those here specifically for cambodia I think.

Anyway... What are currently the best rates?
- Woori bank: 7.25% on 1y deposit
- Sathapana bank: 5.75%
- ABA bank : 3.75%
- Bred bank : 3.50% to 4% depending on amount.

Damn, I could almost live on interest alone with those rates. Lucky to get 1% on a CD here. Highest savings rate I know of is about .55%.

Yeah in Belgium highest on saving I can get is 0.3% now. The differences in interest are huge. The difference in the safety of your deposits might be too though. Although I trust the backing Sathapana and Woori bank have.

The Post used to print a table listing the rates from various banks. MFIs are usually higher. I have an account with Prasac that pays 8% per year. I've had money with them for 10 years now but the service is poor.

CMK once paid me 50% on an account with a 5 year maturity.

I just checked Prasac but they now lowered their rates. Since there are no comparison sites we can make a list here. I prefer banks so will separate the Mfis.

1 year deposit account
Interest rates

Banks:

- Woori bank 7.25%
- Sathapana bank 5.75%
- ABA bank 3.75%
- Bred bank 3.50% to 4% (negotiable)

Micro Finance institutions:

- Hatha 7.25%
- Prasac 7%

Acleda offers 4.55%.

Please note all these rates are before tax. Tax is 14% of the paid interest for foreigners.

Prasac's one year maturity growth account still pays 7.25%. Their one year monthly maturity account pays 7.00%.

And 6% if you live here (*even if you’re a foreigner).
