Asset bubbles

Post by Clutch Cargo »

I came across this headline this morning on theaustralian.com.au/business It's pay walled so couldn't read the actual article. For non Aussies, RBA (Reserve Bank Of Australia)
RBA eyes risk of ‘sharp correction’ in asset prices

The RBA says it is ‘closely monitoring’ the market for any sign record low interest rates have triggered a bubble that might bust.
I couldn't help have a chuckle at this..

Aren't all assets (real estate, shares) already pretty much in a bubble? Haven't low interest rates already created that situation? So what more do they need to 'closely monitor' before they realise it is a bubble.....when it bursts..lol?

From the same site:
How Australia became a millionaire factory in 2021
Australia’s millionaire explosion has been largely driven by RBA’s record low interest rates.
This is referring to median house prices in the major capital cities being worth more than $1 million.

Interest rates are so low and there's so much liquidity in all markets we're already in the everything bubble.
The question is what we're heading for. A bubble burst or very high inflation driving prices even more up. For now it looks like we're down road number two.
