Yeah, this is weird. I firstly got an SMS notification about this from ABA (the same source that sends me OTPs for payment transfers et al), then I got an email in khmer, then got an email in english, then got a combined email in khmer & english.

And the message is strange....hurry up and log in to iBanking by the 21st to avoid suspension but we're stopping it anyway from 1 Jan..

^^^^^

I found mention of it on their website here: https://www.ababank.com/en/self-banking ... t-banking/

HOWEVER, there's no mention of
In addition, ABA Bank will discontinue its Personal iBanking service from 1 January 2021 onwards.
which is on the email. Go figure!

Yes you do. When you download the app it is linked to your Cambodian phone number which you have registered with the bank, a Pin number is then sent via SMS to that phone number so that you can complete the registration of the app.

I'm guessing the emails and sms messages only went out to those customers who haven't logged into their online account since June 1, 2020?

All the banks I have accounts with still have web presence and app presence, thank goodness. Even my on-line only bank keeps a web page.

But it’s just like another poster’s concerns, what happens if you lose a phone, or change phones and numbers? Problems waiting to happen.

But even the US Banks have created new tricks to annoy.

Wells Fargo wants customers to insert their banking card and submit their PIN at the teller station.
I refuse, every time.

Only use them to exchange currency and overseas transfers.

Yes, sounds like that's the case coz I hadn't logged in for ages but I do like the idea of a back up to the app nevertheless. I'm hoping they will not suspend the service on 1 Jan and the email was in error.

The only times I need my activated Cambodia sim out of the country is when I'm transferring money to an overseas bank i.e. UK or buying something such as an airline ticket using my ABA debit card. I get a text sent to my number which is in an old spare phone. I keep sim activated (every180 days on Smart App), so I don't lose my long time number and this type of service.

There is also the option to receive the one time pin via email when making transactions.

whatwat wrote: Thu Sep 17, 2020 6:13 pm No. Because I’m assuming your phone is protected with a pin or Face ID and you’d simply buy a new phone download the app and login. You don’t need a Cambodian phone number.

If you’re ‘terrified’ of that then I’m sure you need help to do this simple stuff.
Wrong when you download the new app it sends a code to your registered phone number when setting it up.
