This would be quite instructive.

Recently I've read posters mentioning Forte and AG for health insurance.

I have friends that use A+ International and are content with it but haven't made any claims yet.

I'm considering A+ myself but am still on the fence.

I've been insured with Henner for the last 16 years and am pretty happy with them. Any claims have been handled promptly and without any fuss. They also have a number of hospitals where no advance payment is required.

I have World Nomads, costs about AU$700/year. Once claimed a US$250 biopsy on it and got it refunded (minus the AU$100 excess) quickly and easily. Really the main reason for having it is for a medevac if ever needed. Although I know if it came to the worst, you guys would all chip in to my Gofundme, wouldn't you? :D

I had Forte Medi+ which covered my serious accident and medivac to Thailand.

I had A+ international but never needed a claim.

I also had life insurance in Cambodia, through one of Royal Group companies.

Just for a lark, i asked about medical insurance last year and at my age it would be $11,000/year
How old are you? 110??? :)

I have a $500,000 per annum cover, medical policy plus medivac from Myanmar to Bangkok. It's a well-known UK company that covers me except in the USA.

I'm almost 60 years old and I pay about $800 a year in premiums.....

I would guess that’s because you are legally resident in UK or other Western country. All these ‘cheap’ insurance policies require you to be a resident of that country.
If you live long term in Cambodia and are around 60 years old, then health insurance premiums are far higher, running into the multi-thousands per year.

Nope, left the UK in 2002, no address, not on the electoral role etc. I have an expat medical insurance policy from the UK company listed with my address in Myanmar.

I took out the policy a couple of years ago with no pre-existing medical conditions (still have none). Of course, the premiums will rise as I get older and move into a different insurance band, but the 60-65 years old band is about a 20% premium increase over my current premium. Since it's a UK company, they cannot refuse my insurance renewal each year, cannot increase my individual premium if I claim etc, (unlike Thai companies who can price you out if you make a claim).

And the name of this company is?

I had MSH a couple of years ago. Didn't need to claim on it. Cover for me and missus in Asia only but treatment anywhere we chose in the region, including medevac, was about $2300. Last year we were travelling and had World Nomads. They paid out for emergency treatment for my missus in South America without any problems. A few years ago I had a not very serious accident in Thailand which cost about $20k to put right. DAN covered that. This year we went with Regency. It was about $2400 (introductory 25% discount) for me, missus and sprog, worldwide coverage except US and Canada.
I wouldn't chance self-insurance without at least $500k in the bank.
