Re: Do you feel regret that you don't have MD?
This is from my school of thoughts.
Who said this ?
He says his experience was not unusual in the 1940s, 50s and 60s. Nearly all his age-group colleagues in journalism “learnt their trade on the job” ‹ and this ties in closely with “the Kiwi concept” of “learning by doing”. In fact, when asked to summarise his 544-page book on learning in a sentence, he says that’s easy” “If you want to learn it, do it.”
He adds: “No one ever learned to ride a bike from a lecture on bike-riding. You learn to walk by walking, to type by typing, to use a computer by using a computer. And you learn best by using the whole world as a classroom. When I was a kid growing up in the saw-milling lumber areas of country New Zealand, if we wanted to have a swim, we had to first build a log dam in a stream to build our own swimming pool. If we wanted to go rafting, we had to build our own raft. If we wanted to play in a hut, we built a tree-hut.”

Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.

I have two Masters Degrees. One was a waste of time but enjoyable.
I earn my money from one of my Bachelors degrees.
I could earn more money if I used one of my Masters Degrees in conjunction with my Bachelors, but it would not give me the flexibility I require as it would be an office based career type job.
Basically, unless your degree leads to a registered or restricted profession or vocation it is a waste of time in terms of income.

To be honest, i don't really mind spending time to go back to school. I just want to go back to school and learn more. I honestly feel like there are so many things which i believe going back to school would boast my understanding and knowledge. If i manage to get an oversea scholarship that would be really cool, however if i don't get it, i would eventually go back to school anyway as studying in Cambodia is not that expensive.LaudJohn wrote:I have two Masters Degrees. At PUC, 2 years master degree program would only cost 4000 USD.

Hey Ducan, i am pretty sure that you could get a Cambodian wife, if you want too, unless you don't want to have wife and kids.Duncan wrote:And every time I look in the mirror I see a stupid old prick who left school at age 15, worked his guts out all his life and retired with nothing. Samouth , Get back to school and start learning or you could end up with nothing like me in your old age.
Yes I will definitely go back to school one day.

Re: Do you feel regret that you don't have MD?
The reason that I want to go back to school and get higher degree is to make sure that I can compete with other people in the job markets. Even though i can't make much money from working in the office, i still want to work in the office. I really don't want to work as a blue collar, it is not that i am discriminated to outdoor jobs, but it is just my personal preference. I am currently working as a white collar and i believe that having a master degree would help me in the promotion process or perhaps would land me a much better job in the future.Kuroneko wrote:Don't forget that your first degree really is just a start and (hopefully) proves that you can absorb and understand the theoretical information that is required to develop your chosen career. Once you have the degree you start learning to put that knowledge to practical effect, this could be through an internship or similar training regimen. It took me possibly six years of hard work following graduation to amass sufficient expertise to apply for a bottom rung senior position.Samouth wrote:

Really the importance of getting a masters depends on your career and is not relevant to everyone. In the health sector for example it can be very useful once you have absorbed all your basics. I used to teach on a masters in public health, and many of my students were nurses that wanted to improve their career prospects and for them it was very useful.
In the end it depends where your interest lies and how much effort you are prepared to put in to succeed. In some areas academic qualifications are essential in some they are not. A friend of mine dropped out after senior high and started a company selling computers. This was when most people didn't even know what a computer was, but he ultimately developed a very successful company. Another friend dropped out of uni and started doing property renovation. He made enough cash to retire at 38 and spent the next 30 years enjoying himself in SEA.

Now I'm thinking of getting Master degree then I regretted that I gave up on a scholarship of Master degree then start to study another bachelor degree. I just because I didn't like my master degree subject.

Yes, everyday I wish I had gone to school earlier. I now have 4 more years to complete this and by that time we will have flying cars and what-not...I'm not even that smart... but I can tell who went to school or privately learned and who didn't...

You're never to too old to get back into learning. If you can attempt to be computer literate then there are many jobs that you could apply for if you learn to code. I think that would be best considering that it would open more doors to remote employment. Also.. your bleak outlook reminds me of myself..note to self.... get a gold watch...
