Yes or no, can I (and others in my situation) get into Cambodia this year ?

Ask us anything. Cambodia Expats Online has a huge community of long-term expats that can answer any question you may have about life in Cambodia. I can imagine your pain- I missed the lad's first birthday, first steps and all the mad fun he seems to encourage. So commiserations, but congratulations, too.
Now, it's a battle to get the extra time off from company, as the 3weeks I normally get is not enough with the quarantine risks.

Good to hear that you got the Visa sorted, as the last time I tried, they had become adamant that a Job or registered business was mandatory.

Thanks for the kind words. Yes its been tough but it has given me something to focus on. I dont know what Embassy you tried to get the visa from but i guess its hit or miss. I know personally of another who has gone out for the birth of his child last month and had little or no problems. He WAS asked at the airport why he was in Cambodia and they were satisfied with his reason. It would be very unfair of any embassy to keep immediate family members apart in my opinion.

"most of the posters on here are under 55"

Apparently I'm in the minority @65

Was really hoping to travel to Cambodia around January, and apply for the retirement Visa, either before arriving or when in country... I'm pretty flexible on that point.

Several online articles says it's possible provided you agree to quarantine, insurance, $cash deposit, etc. It all seems quite a bit over the top, however compared to Thailand <self-sensor comments>

The Embassy online page is rather sketchy, as it says YES some places, and NO other places. Emailed embassy, here in US, and they only referred me back to their website, for "clarification".

One gets a EB (business, aka standard visa) to get in. It’s valid for 6 months, and expires 1 month after entry. Unless you are special. Aka embassy personnel, Cambodian citizen, married to a Cambodian citizen, etc.

In order to get a regular visa, a business in Cambodian needs to sponsor you in (ie, give you a job and vouch for you) with a letter.

After entering the country, the visa is then extended into regular business visa, retirement, etc.

The country is not really open to tourism at this point. Maybe in January things will change.

Otherwise, good luck!

There is no Retirement Visa, only an Extension of Stay. You need to enter the country on the E-type (Ordinary) Visa and then apply for an ER (Retirement) Extension of Stay

No, there is no such thing as an EB visa...one gets an E-type (Ordinary) Visa (still incorrectly referred to as a business Visa by Cambodian Embassies), it is valid for 3 months from date of issue to enter Cambodia, and you are granted 1 month on arrival.

EB is the Business Extension of Stay category, which you correctly stated can be applied for once in Cambodia.

With that, do you mean land borders in Southeast Asia specifically? I'd guess that's possible, but I doubt they'll open them for tourists so soon (let's say you or me visiting Cambodia for a holiday from Thailand).

The embassy here in Australia told me because I had been on an ER visa for three years (now expired) I could not apply for an EB even though I had the letter and the other requirements.
