WTB strong magnets for furniture doors/drawers

Post by StroppyChops »

Does anyone know if those small, round, strong magnets (often called rare-earth magnets, but typically don't use rare-earth metals) are available in Phnom Penh?

I have a couple of cupboard doors that the ghosts silently open at night and don't fancy the 10c door magnets typically sold for this problem.

If they are, watch your fingers. I use these a lot in my workshop and the are kept in a row with plastic washers between them. They are incredibly strong and have nipped my fingers more than once. They also shatter very easily.

Thanks, aware of the strength (that's why I want them) but didn't know they shatter. Do you epoxy them into rebates?

Neither. I was using them with my grandson to demonstrate magnetic linear accelerators and obviously leading onto guns firing ball bearings. Then we tried the old perpetual motion machine.

Magnets are great fun.

As they are an alloy, they shatter easier than ferrous magnets. Pissed me off when two of my bigger magnets crashed into each other due to my stupidity and they shattered and the shards went everywhere. Cost of over $200 down the drain.

Use very small rare earth magnets set in epoxy in a rebate and use soft shut dampers to double prevent them shattering.

I bought two very large , about 4'' dia and strong magnets at O'russey Market for I think it was about $2 ea . Great entertainment for the kids as they watched a steel ball bearing move on the table . nails standing up, while you have the magnet underneath the table.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

... is not magnetic, nor made of rare earth minerals.
