WTB - raw materials for soap-making

Post by StroppyChops »

We're establishing a soap-making enterprise for a small number of nationals than need additional income streams.

(If you're already foaming at the mouth with reasons why we shouldn't, please at least keep your contributions constructive as ain't nobody got time for that. Yes, I'm aware others are doing this already.)

I need to source the following raw materials in bulk at decent prices and any leads or other information would be wildly appreciated.
  • Palm oil, Olive oil, Coconut oil - preferably in 10 or 20 liter units
  • Castor oil - prefer 5 liter units
  • Shea butter - by the kilo
  • Caustic soda (100% sodium hydroxide, NaOH) - 20 to 25kg bags
  • Fragrant oils (e.g. rose, musk, vanilla) - authentic, not diluted rubbish
I have a supplier of essential oils but at $20 per 500mL - cheaper would be better. Chasing oils such as lemongrass, lavendar, spearmint, sweet orange, litsea cubeba (or "mountain pepper") etc.

As a separate but related project I'm also looking for the following in 500mL or 1L units:
  • Glycerine
  • Aloe vera gel
  • Macadamia, sweet almond, jojoba and avocado oils
Any input welcome, useful input particularly appreciated. If anyone is interested in kicking in for start up costs or otherwise being involved, please PM me.

Litsea cubeba is a non edible citrus fruit that's used in cosmetics.

We don't use glycerine, it's produced naturally in the soap making process. Aloe Vera gel is occasionally found in 500gm tubs in the cosmetics or medicine sections of mini marts.
