work permit thang
that's right...thang. So I'm reading another site and they're all atwitter about some old regs now being ENFORCED concerning work permits. Making it sound like ANYONE on any long stay visa HAS to get a work permit for $100 or something and med tests n such. Even if you are NOT working and don't intend to work. Then the "info stream" went dead. Lame forum was my first thought.
But this WOULD be a lovely way to bring in a LOT of new income for the government, errr elite life sucking bastards
So, what's the word from you guys that are there, have been there for a long time and others who KNOW. I don't want "I read, I heard, or theorizing.
thanks muchly.

this is the problem I'm having on this, no one seems to KNOW.
Some say wait until October (no idea why they choose this timeframe).
oh yeah, saw that PP article "red tape ahead". Would indicate to me that the days of 300 a year long stay biz visas are over and welcome to $450 a year plus more red tape.
I was really hoping to hear from some who had gotten the year visa if that was the case for them. Guess not.
The retroactive part seems almost like they want ppl to start leaving in droves.

Re: work permit thang
Even with all this new stuff, it's still incredibly cheap to be allowed to live here.... Beer o clock
I'll give ya 500 Riel for it...
Re: work permit thang
First of all, the PPP article was penned by a guy promoting his business getting foreigners work permits. Total fraud.

Re: work permit thang
yeah, I finally ran across that info. That rat bastard should suffer. And the Post is just as bad I think. I found where ONE GUY got the visit and paid $100 for the permit. And another $30 for some fee he figured was basically tea money. And he'd been there six years.

All that information is well and good, but what about the government and work permit enforcement? what is going on with all that? Maybe I should start a new thread about this?Username Taken wrote:Just ran that through Google Translate and it came back with this:Sir_Quality_U_Feel wrote:Ummm...

Basically....
VISA - Currently there are no issues obtaining the Ordinary E-Type visa and extending it, they are not asking for anything extra apart from the visa fee.
WORK PERMIT - If you work in Cambodia, legally you must have a Work Permit and Work Book, and a valid E-Type Visa. This is not a new law, but it hasn't previously been enforced and they are now starting to try and enforce it.

Re: work permit thang
the hub bub is over rumors that they are trying to collect work permit money for each year, retroactively, REGARDLESS of whether you have worked or not, because it is after all a business visa. Online I've not been able to find evidence of this. Possibly rat bastard Post article writer and for a fee I'll fix your visa probs guy's article (and who knows what else, likely spreading the rumor with every meeting, or at bars) has ramped UP the worry. And with Thailand notorious about changing laws overnight and sometimes random enforcement, that WOULD lead to some "hysteria" in a climate of no hard REAL information.
I suspect the gov WILL get more serious about work permits for those that work. I'm forgetting about it until I see some real people or regular posters telling their stories of woe. The one guy I read about did not have to go thru medical test/certificate, or get dinged for all his six years there.
IF they did this, they'd lost a LOT MORE money than they would gain and it would slam on the brakes on development for sure.
They might oughta have a retirement visa option, but that would be logical huh.
