Who can help me make a video on the cheap?

Post by monomial »

I would like to make a promotional video, and I need a film crew who can help me find the following:

1. Create a story board to draw in the viewer
2. Find one or two beautiful girls who can speak English
3. Do the actual filming and post processing.

This doesn't have to be Hollywood quality, but I want it to look good. Some people can do amazing things with nothing more than an iPhone.

I don't have a huge budget though. I was thinking maybe students from a university.

With regard to the girls, there is no point in well known actresses. The people watching this will all be overseas and have no idea who the girls will be anyway (unless you are talking about an A list Hollywood starlet who wants to work for free). So just anyone with a great smile and a fun personality who looks good on camera will do. Also the girls will need to do their own makeup. I can not afford a professional modelling agency at $500 - $1000/day. It has to be more cost effective than that.

Does anyone have a contact for someone who might be able to help me out?

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Thanks Richard. I will check her out.

I wouldn't expect to have a role other than in planning the initial storyboard and approving the final video.

This would be a product related to the pepper industry, and the video would be a semi documentary about that. If anyone has ever been on one of those pepper tours, you know they can be very dull. The idea is to make it seem fresh, fun and exciting, the kind of thing people would actually want to be involved with. A sell the fantasy type of story. Since the target demographic are foreign males ages 30-50 I need something that appeals to that demographic.

There have to be performing arts or film schools around. Does anyone have contacts with any of these? I am thinking there have to be amateur film makers around who would like the opportunity to try their hand at something like this.

Since I need English speakers, it might be best to get young, foreign tourists to play the roles. Does anyone know how you would go about casting for something like that?

I think you may have misunderstood what you read. Organic, GI Certified gourmet Kampot Pepper is $15/kg. This is despite the fact that commodity, industrial pepper from Vietnam is selling for as low as $3/kg. They are completely different markets.

Of course, the KPPA needs to do a better job with promotion to increase demand for the premium product. This video may even help with that if I can ever get it made.

I tried emailing some Khmer Youtubers who produce (in my opinion) amateur quality videos. So far, I have not found anyone who realizes that their product is actually very poor and they can not ask for twice what a professional production house would charge elsewhere. Sometimes the mindset here amazes me. I realize Cambodia is an isolated nation and that they don't have much exposure to the larger world, but some of them genuinely don't realize just how lacking they really are. Being a big fish in a small pond makes them blind to the fact that they will be swallowed whole by people who really know their job.

Again, if anyone knows of a university or school that has a film department where the students are genuinely interested in producing a real video and don't have completely unrealistic expectations of their worth please let me know.

I may have to import a crew from Thailand to get this done. Stupid waste of money but what can you do.

I haven't managed to get in touch with Miriam yet but I agree with you about the cost. It will be around $1000 over and above the filming costs to import a crew from Thailand, but even with that overhead they will still be cheaper than any Khmer group I have found and the quality will be an order of magnitude better. That $1000 could go directly into the pockets of a crew if they just understood that their work product doesn't justify Hollywood level fees. As I said above...stupid waste of money.
