Where to stay in Kampot or Kep?

Post by violet »

Reasonably antisocial, private solo person looking for a reasonably priced, relaxing place to stay in either Kampot or Kep for a few days.
Not wanting people or mosquitoes for room companions, i.e. No dorm rooms and no shacks with multiple gaps in bamboo walls.
Not wanting to pay more than $50 a night... $30 is preferred.
Not so out of the way that it causes additional expenses or difficulty getting to and from.
Somewhere lush with greenery would be nice but not necessary.
Much in need of a soul recharge on a budget and with as little hassle as possible.

WiFi preferred but not essential.

Recommendations?

PS, now the train goes from PP to Battambang, any recommendations for there are also welcomed.

Sarovan hotel. Opposite the beach, pool, restaurant but right in the thick of it at weekends.

Sabay beach, champa lodge. Greenhouse

They are slightly out of the way but passapp is there so tuk Tuks are pretty cheap.

Hard to get all of what you want in town

Yah. No party environment wanted. Not sure if Bangkokhooker is saying the parting happens at Sarovan hotel or not.

Thanks CC.

Great choice. Really cool room, private patio and good wifi. About a 10 min walk to the crab market. Small pool, but you can take a dip at any hour and it's overlooking the beach.

It was a very quiet location, so a beautiful place to just lounge around.

Here's pics from our patio, one looking out towards the beach and the other looking into the room.

Just to be clear, the spelling of the place I'm talking about is SARAVOAN HOTEL, and we paid about $25 or $30.

I stayed at Gecko Village a few km north of Kampot town last weekend. Quiet, river, pool, comfy bungalows with ac and hot shower, good wifi, good breakfasts included, well priced. A bit isolated, but good for a few days doing nothing by the river.

Cheaper than the booking sites by booking direct via email on their website.

Saravoan is nice, but if it's the weekend the throngs of people just across the road make for a noisy stay.

Earlier this year, so I doubt much has changed there. We were well impressed, for the price.

Overall, Kep is way too boring for me, but a nice place to do nothing.
