Where to get a highschool diploma?

Unfortunately Ms chinesetakeaway like many here didn’t finish highschool and now the lack of a diploma is holding her back. It’s not so much that she ‘missed’ the knowledge but the requirement for many jobs/schools(further education) both here and overseas. I’ve asked whether tea money still works but apparently not. Advice appreciated! Aside, I got her a driving license late last year by paying $70 tea money and a trip to Takahmao.

What's the point of a diploma if you buy it? If you want a receipt you can just give me the money and I'll write you one.

Strange approach to the problem. Why go through the hassle if she ends up with no education anyway?

I read that you believe she has the knowledge but was unable to take/pass the exam to receive a diploma. To my knowledge she can take the national exam any time.

It's the provincial office of education, but forget a 50-100 USD price. There's been an effective crackdown a few years ago, but maybe the equivalent of 100 driving licenses will do the trick. I doubt it though, unless you are really, and I mean REALLY, well connected in the PoE.

There are programs for people like this though, also organized by the PoE in cooperation with the local department of the ministry of labor. Loads of highschools offer special programs for year 12 too, late afternoon or evening. Will cost of course. You can enroll in the exams if you want, but you need a grade 9 certificate for it that has been issued at least three years ago. Fast studies not allowed...

Sorry, I thought this was the ‘Ask the expats section?’ Clearly you think it should be called ‘Be judged by the expat section?’ May I suggest if you have no useful information to restrain yourself from the urge to dump all your life’s frustrations on this forum. Thank you.

You probably know that until recently the Highschool diploma was in no way a reflection of the educational attainment of the holder. It merely showed they were sufficiently well off to pay the requisite tea money and not had to go to work to help support the family. To buy the diploma was the norm. I know this has changed somewhat. Ms Chinesetakeaway is 32, and would like to go to study overseas. She’s passed the entrance exams but unfortunately there is a hard requirement of a Highschool diploma in order to get a visa.

Let her pay a visit to the PoE (provincial office of education) in your province or in the province she once enrolled in highschool. Bring all the documents proving she has passed the entrance exams and she will be allowed to enroll and bring the grade 9 certificate. If there is no grade 9 certificate it's end of story, she has to obtain that one first. Explain just the highschool diploma is holding her back and they might be able to assist.

Would it not be easier to sign up for a baccalaureate in the destination country, then do the follow on course? It would have more educational value. International baccalaureate is good enough for uni entrance

Anyhow, that's what I meant. Get whichever letter is needed and have her take the national exam. Good luck.

I know of far too many students that worked extremely hard for me to let a comment slide. I do not believe most local people with a diploma simply paid for it. I'm pretty sure those that bought it are the minority.

Sadly, there are a great many folk, both in person and online who fail to comprehend, deliberately fail to comprehend on a pretence of playing devils advocate, and then go on to demonstrate that their own breadth of experience isn’t nearly as broad as they’d like to think.

OP. I can’t answer your question, as I don’t know the system, or how/where to circumvent it.

Take a moment to think about the problem and how it may apply to the slightly more advanced areas of Cambodia and the wider world, too.

A high school certificate or diploma is a frequent requirement in many job applications, whether there is any relevance or not, to the job description.
It is a filter. I feel confident saying it’s part of the HR contrived HR industry. Have ten jobs available and ten thousand applicants. Who wants to read all the CVs when you can exclude a massive proportion before you even start?

As for the Ms. Really? Ms/Mrs. Even for some folk, this is sliding to new lows in the effort to misunderstand.
I have a partner. Here, on the Forum I might refer to her as Ms/Mrs Freightdog, if I needed to refer to her in some way.
