Where to buy a brand new computer in Phnom Penh?
I've looked and purchased about 7 years ago, and bought a whole heap of trouble. I looked recently, and the only "new" one's I found were already opened and with the manufactures guarantees missing.
Looking for a brand new, unopened, officially guaranteed laptop that takes Win 7.
Do they exist here? If so where, and rough prices please.
Not looking for a top model, just something like an Acer with a dual processor and 2 or 3 gigs of ddr ram, and a 12- 14" screen. Old model, but brand new would do the trick nicely.
TIA.

If you go for a wander along Kampuchea Krom, west of Street 169, there are dozens of computer shops.

Are you positive they have brand new and boxed with official guarantee? I asked in one of the best shops, and nothing doing. All were either second-hand, or new but opened and no manufacturers guarantee.timmydownawell wrote: ↑Thu Aug 03, 2017 5:34 pm If you go for a wander along Kampuchea Krom, west of Street 169, there are dozens of computer shops.

A properly refurbished Thinkpad from somewhere up Kampuchea Krom is gonna last you for years. Computer warranties are for lamers, and for people that don't have lots of sensitive stuff on their hard-drives.
Other than that, PTC are gonna have brand new stuff. And that place just to the right of Tous Les Jours Sorya. That tall building that is all store.

Is that GSM Sorya or shopping center Sorya?
You say that about refurbs, but some of the second-hand ones I saw were over $800, and the only warranty was the stores own 3 month one. Who knows what a comps history is and how long it will last nowadays since they've been made in China. I've had to buy 4 new ones in the last 7 years. Up till then 3 since 1993 till then because they were getting a bit slow by comparison.

The BEST place to buy a new computer in Cambodia, would be Thailand.

You can build a box for about 400usd, which means you can upgrade your system at any time. It's not hard. There are videos and shopping guides online.

That is Shopping center Sorya.
Yes, you would pay about a 300 - 400 % premium for an unopened computer compared to a fairly comparable refurb.
Up Kampuchea Krom you should be able to find refurbished Thinkpad series T420, T430, T520, T530 etc for around $250, maybe even some heavier W520, W530 for $350. More portable ones like the X201 or the X1 Carbon would work as well. Don't buy any other Lenovo series, like the SL or Edge, they are not of the same quality.
Good quality refurbs have gone through a proper factory again and are very clean. They will have run diagnostics and replaced bad parts. The laptops are all quite modular and a skilled repairman can replace any failing parts for quite little money. I have owned several of the aforementioned series and they always last for years, and I run them very heavily indeed (24/7 operation, several virtual machines open, turning almost red hot from the load and the ambient heat). If they fail it is always the motherboard circuits (like the graphics), leaving you the option of attempting a reballing. If that does not work, I just buy another similar computer and move the old hard drive.

Well it's a good starting place to look. Personally I was shopping for a UPS when I was looking around there.AlonzoPartriz wrote: ↑Thu Aug 03, 2017 5:50 pmAre you positive they have brand new and boxed with official guarantee? couldn't u buy what u want online and have it sent to you? http://www.lazada.co.th/?setLang=en
if u dont want it shipped to u in Cambodia have it sent to a Thailand PO box
