So does this mean I can take the laptop I have in Thailand with me when I go to Cambodia without any problems?

Not sure if that's a serious question or not, but, yes of course you can.

No way mate. Cambodia have strict laws controlling importation of electronic devices. No phones, laptops, desktops, tv's or blenders are allowed to be imported. If they catch you trying to bring that shit in you could be up for a long stretch!Ronny wrote:So does this mean I can take the laptop I have in Thailand with me when I go to Cambodia without any problems?

That was the conclusion I came to, well, Vietnam actually as it's a bit cheaper and you don't need to go into a Prantip Plaza scenario. You just go into any decent sized shop on the street in HCM. They also have plenty of authorized dealers and service centers there. And only 6 hours away. Judging by my price encounters here over the last 7 years, I could probably get a room for a week with plenty of beers on top for the price difference. I'm intending to do that at some point, but I'm a bit busy at the moment.Barang chgout wrote: ↑Thu Aug 03, 2017 6:30 pm The BEST place to buy a new computer in Cambodia, would be Thailand.

I just thought I'd ask whether there was somewhere decently priced like Chantra, but selling boxed items with a one year warranty.
See crook!!!

They're new computers along KK. Calm down, it's 2017, not everything is counterfeit anymore. Only difference is some won't come with official windows, but the sellers are always upfront about that.

Personally, I would never lug an expensive computer around Asia. A less-than-300-buck refurb is sufficient. CPUs are so fast now anyway so even 5 year old machines can do most things the regular punter requires, as well as professional work. Just get an i5 or i7 and 4-8gb of ram and you're good to go. There is too much dust, too much heat, too many thieves, and too many nesting ants here, so using an expensive computer could be a very big mistake.
Of course, refurbs might have shit batteries. That needs to be tested before purchase.
Examples: (no affiliation with the sellers, I am just a Thinkpad fan)
X230. Maybe too tiny screen for extended work (12.5 inch), but oh so light and transportable. $220

X1 Carbon. This is real pro-stuff that I would consider buying myself if 128gb SSD was enough for me. Very light, despite a bigger screen than the X230. Limited expansion possibilities due to small chassi. This is comparable to a Macbook Air, but the difference is that you don't look like an idiot when you use it in public.$370

T430. All round workhorse. Not too small, not too big (about 2.5kg) $239
https://www.khmer24.com/lenovo-thinkpad ... 24991.html
W510, W520, W530 workstations starting at $370. This is really good stuff. i7s, 16gb ram. Separate graphics (can even play decent games). Heavy though (3kg plus).
If my computer would be situated in one place most of the time, on a desk, this is what I would get, without a doubt.

Why are blenders banned?Barang chgout wrote:No way mate. Cambodia have strict laws controlling importation of electronic devices. Blenders, mixmasters, electric bread knives, coffee grinders and plastic collanders are all banned because of their threat to national security with their potential to "create unrest and instability ".
