What to do when you get lost in the jungle?

So it would be nice to hear your trekking experiences and some tips of preparation like what are things to take with and what to do when you get lost in the jungle alone or with someone. Perhaps how to survive when you get lost in the jungle having only a backpack which contains a few books, pens, a big bottle of water and a few chewing gums?
There is hardly enough jungle in Cambodia left to get lost in. HE and his Ohkna have seen to that.

All you need is a slingshot, a camouflage hammock with integrated mosquito net, some water purification tablets and you can live forever.
As others have pointed out; there's no real jungle left in disturbed in Camboland, so just set a bearing to any point of the compass and you will hit civilisation within a day, no matter where in the country you are.

Do they have Kendal mint cake here? It's for when you absolutely, positively have nothing to eat.

You don't really need much, but you do need skills. Map-reading, being able to take a bearing and so on will keep you out of trouble.
A few useful items for the non-skilled (and which I always carry with me when going dirt riding in remote places):
1-A whistle. Yelling for help is extremely inefficient, especially if you're hurt.
2-A headlight
3-A first-aid kit
4-Lot's of water (I carry around 2-3L), rehydration solution (like Royal D) and snacks
5-A GPS (if possible)
BTW, I heard you're still angry at me?

Was looking forward to your contribution given your experience off road. Would you recommend to not travel alone?Bitte_Kein_Lexus wrote:You don't really need much, but you do need skills. Map-reading, being able to take a bearing and so on will keep you out of trouble.

If you are on the island, make a fire.
If you are in the jungle, you should make a call ( if no service , you should find the hill or climb on the tree ) and also use compass ( maybe you should wear a watch with compass).
While you are waiting, you have to make sure you can protect yourself from harmful animals such as tigers, sneaks and monkeys.... Wearing boots or sneakers are better for traveling in jungle.
Water and food are the most important , you need to bring with while are traveling and don't forget to look at the signs.
BTW I never get lost in the jungle, but I experienced traveling and staying in temples, pagoda and forest when I studies at university( 2007 at Prah Vihear province, there were still some mines there). I could pack my stuff better than my friends because I experienced to travel rural area with my aunt and escaped from Khmer Rough since I was 9.

That's the best idea,, make a call,, but you did not put your phone number there so how can we call you. prahkeitouj, please bring a lighter so I can make a fire and be rescued.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

Re: What to do when you get lost in the jungle?
For sure. It's quite foolish to travel/hike/ride alone in Cambodia or anywhere else for that matter. Most people I know ride in large-ish groups, I just prefer being alone. I'm also always busy when others have time off and so on... As for hiking, I prefer alone because it gives me time to think and well, unplug from the world. Cambodia doesn't offer many good hiking opportunities, but there are a few. Nothing will ever beat a good sense of orientation and map-reading skills. You don't need to be able to adjust magnetic declination, but being able to take a bearing and know your surroundings is key.Username Taken wrote:Was looking forward to your contribution given your experience off road.
