Bring in US Dollars. It’s a good universal currency in much of the world, anyway, and here runs as a parallel currency. UK bank cards will work in the ATMs, but you’ll be charged.
How long are you here, for? How extravagant are your tastes, and what are your expectations? Do you have a budget?
How long is a piece of string?
As a rough and very subjective guide, based on what I do when I’m back.
Car rental runs around $65 per day. Taxi/Bus services are cheap if your willing to mingle.
Beer $1 a glass.
Depends where you drink, but cocktails $2.50 up
A decent meal $5, and plenty of street food would give you change back from that.
TukTuk between $1 and $3 for most local trips
You can spend much more if you want, and I’m sure some spend much less.
If I average a spend of $5 per day on me alone, I’d be surprised, but then I have other distractions, like monitoring the kids homework. It’s only making the most of family time with trips that runs up the costs.

We have atm's......just withdraw USD as and when needed. It ain't that complicated.

I think legally you can bring in up to US$10,000 cash, or equivalent. If it is more than that, I think you need to declare it.
However, a lot of people get robbed between the airport and the city, so it is not wise to carry a lot of cash.
Exchange a small amount of money to US dollars before you come, so you have something to spend for the first day or two. Get small denominations, like $1, $5, $10, and $20, as many places don't have a lot of change.
If you bring in a foreign currency, and exchange it to US dollars at a bank in Cambodia, you normally get a better exchange rate than exchanging it to US dollars at home. It is up to you how much cash you bring.
You can withdraw from ATMs. You normally get $100 notes, and many places wont have change for them. I suggest, go to an ATM at a bank, do the withdrawal, then go inside and change it to smaller denominations.

To the OP: read this as: "Sometimes people get robbed between the airport and the city, but they're usually not the brightest and on top of that usually, let's say 'looking for some illegal substances', in other words: almost asking for it."
Normal visitors/tourists rarely get robbed between the airport and the city.
BTW, this is not to say you should carry a lot of cash (as there indeed is no need for it), but scaring people is the other extreme, IMO.

you will get terrible exchange rates at home so bring enough US dollars for visa, food, taxi etc. , then go to an ATM here
Or use a prepaid card
the max currency is 10k i think

As above you can only legally bring in less than $10,000 in cash without declaring it. As above you should try not to ever carry so much cash on you. There is no need to much of the time, use your cards and take out less cash. Or else hire a bodyguard.

The majority of people that get robbed are not looking for illegal substances. That is just ridiculous.
Talk to a lot of different people, and let them tell you about their experiences, and things will get clearer.
Sue is probably more at risk than some others. It seems she is new to Cambodia, and doesn't know how things work. They will probably pick up on that. Women normally don't fight back, making them soft targets. Whereas, if they were to try to rob a fit man, he is likely to fight back. Yes, they do often select those who seem like they will not fight back.

I also said there's no need to scare people when there really is no need.
