The fees that money changers charge are paltry.explorer wrote: ↑Thu Nov 28, 2019 6:37 pmIf you are a regular customer and they know you. If you are not, many places will say they don't have change. Money changers are there to make a profit, and will want you to pay for it. If you withdraw from an ATM at a bank, they change the money in the bank, they will do it for free.John Bingham wrote: ↑Thu Nov 28, 2019 6:22 pm You can withdraw any amount from $10 up. There are money changers everywhere, and long gone are the days when changing $100 was any big issue in bars, restaurants, shops etc.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

Whatever money you bring in, be sure that every single bill is new, not even slightly worn, not even slightly torn, no ink or writing on it, and for $100 bills, be sure they have the blue stripe on them.
Otherwise you'll have considerable difficulty getting a bank or vendor to accept them.
And when receiving US bills in return or when receiving change from a purchase, inspect them well and make sure they also follow the above criteria.
Fake $100 billls are circulating around here everywhere, so inspect them carefully!!

I retract my previous comment about not listening to Do's and Don'ts
There is one absolute DO NOT in cambodia these days, even for a bloke like me.
"Thou shalt DO NOT stay one night in Sihanoukville if you can possibly avoid it."
But you will enjoy the islands. Good timing too - mid winter in the tropics is purrrfect.

It's me, Sue, I took advise and changed my name here!
So, I've taken the plunge and booked wee place in Sihanoukville.
So, bring it on in Others village!
It's only 4 nights, 1st one we arrive late so we won't be disappointed as it will be dark anyway!

Hi Sue...sue.horne wrote: ↑Thu Nov 28, 2019 5:56 am Haha! I am so excited! Doing Thailand then Cambodia, Sihanoukville, onto Koh Rong, up to Phnom Penh, Siem Reap.
Vietnam. Back to Bangkok! Then Kent! 5 weeks total
Yes, I have another question!
I think I'm right that because we're probably going to be in Cambodia for more than 14 days we'll need a 30 day visa?
VOA?
Visas can be obtained on arrival but I suggest you apply online. On arrival requires queueing and waiting and you'll get a good introduction into Cambodian bureaucracy. There are many online visa companies and they all rip you off with fees that drive up the cost x 3.
http://www.evisa.gov.kh/ This is the official Cambodian website. The cost is $30 for the visa and $6 processing fee. You create an account, make the application and you will get back a pdf with an image of your visa. Print it out (in colour0 and staple it into your passport. All very analogue, but quick and simple. It is valid for 30 days.
When you arrive at Phnom Penh airport go straight to passport officers to your right hand side and while you are in line, turn around and watch the huge queue for Visa on Arrival!! I never spend more than 5 minutes waiting, and often just walk up to a free officer. It's a pleasure arriving here.
As for Vietnam, as long as you hold a normal UK passport and have not entered Vietnam within the last 30 days, you can get a 15day visa waiver. In other words, just present yourself at passport control and they'll stamp your passport and you'll be on your way - no forms required and no fee.
Happy holidays....

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST
