Yes, if she retains her Australian citizenship.MekongMouse wrote:Is that true if she incorporates her business in Cambodia?

Yup, sorry, but you are 100% incorrect!StroppyChops wrote:rozzieoz wrote:We came over last year for me to get dental treatment. We loved Cambodia, went home and packed up.
I love that I can run my business and pay no tax, with cheap everything and a stunning lifestyle-what's not to love!Yup, sorry, income still needs to be reported in country of nationality.rozzieoz wrote:The Australian tax office? Lol good luck with that
It's all about residency...NOT citizenship!
From an Australian Taxation website...
"If You Cease Australian Tax Residency
As a non-resident you will only need to submit an income tax return if you have any Australian sourced income, such as from rental income or the sale of an Australian property. You do not need to lodge an Australian income tax return if the only Australian-source income you receive is interest, dividends or royalties that has had the correct amount of non-resident withholding tax taken from it."
Which is also why they have a form (which I have used last financial year) to declare the fact that you won't be required to file a tax return whilst residing outside of Australia for taxation purposes!
Cheers

You'd best be having that conversation with our accountants at ITP Australia. I didn't say you'd be taxed on your business income, I said you'd have to declare it. The income that you derive personally from your share of your Cambodian business is declarable, taxable income if you're keeping your citizenship in Oz.EDC wrote:Yup, sorry, but you are 100% incorrect!StroppyChops wrote:rozzieoz wrote:We came over last year for me to get dental treatment. Residency and citizenship are very different -I am no longer an Aussie resident for tax purposes.
Once you've read the dictionary, every other book is just a remix.

Yes, actually you're perfectly correct - I did mean residency and not citizenship.rozzieoz wrote:Residency and citizenship are very different -I am no longer an Aussie resident for tax purposes.
ITP Australia discussed our intentions regarding -residence- with us, as if we elect to be non-residents for tax purposes we lose Medicare rights.
