Western Union
I need to move some money from Oz to Bodge to finalise a purchase and for expediency am considering WU. From the WU Australia Online site I see I can transfer dollars "within seconds" for a flat fee - but the small print warns me that the WU agent in PP will also charge their own handling fee.
Any experience on what the handler's fee might be, and any recommendations on a good agent, preferably near TTP although pretty much anywhere into Riverside would do? Can the local agents handle a $5k transaction without notice?

Re: Western Union
no fees for receiver IME.
Maybe an idea to contact your bank before you do it or an algorithm might lock your account- even if they know you are in cambo.
happened to me once, because of some frauds by WU hackers.
Their forex is not great.
i have sent up to 3k
most online banks have TT ability now if you have a local correspondent bank.

I have a local bank but speed is the issue - international bank to bank takes 3-5 days.

Re: Western Union
Sneaky buggers... WU charge a flat fee (well, tiered) for an international transfer and promote themselves on this, but in the fine print they also benefit by fiddling the exchange rate. Bastards.

I was the proud recipient of a money gram last week. There were no charges on my side. But the stupid twat at the desk didn't want to give me my money because an "f" was typed in as a "t" on the form.

Re: Western Union
After fighting with WU's Australian portal for an hour I finally got the dollars sent, and went off to find an agent. I wandered into a bank (CBA? Somesuch, on MTT Bvd) to be held up by an Indian-Filipino guy having a massive argument with the staff about the fact that his sender had not included a middle name for him on the paperwork, yet his ID included a middle name, therefore they would not pay. After a half hour of this, I quietly called bong over and showed him the sample paperwork on the wall, which did not include a middle name for either the sender of receiver. Once he pointed this out to the counter muppet, they paid and he went on his way. Said muppet then refused to pay my amount, stating the payment had been cancelled (I'd already checked my bank and confirmed it had been deducted, and my WU account showing the amount ready for collection) - I suspect this was in retribution for pointing out the glaring logic hole to bong. So now I have $5K in limbo and have been unable to complete the business transaction. Thanks, WU and bank muppets, you made my day.

Hope tomorrow offers different results.

Yep. I knew it was on when I greeted the muppet formally in Khmer and she responded with "What you want?"Kung-fu Hillbilly wrote:I can just see that super slimy self important smile from said muppet as you left.
