Water Tanks
Water Tanks
Polyethelene or SS. Pros & cons of each. Does the poly leach chems?
I lean towards SS but cannot find info on grade of SS.
304 or 316 or 316L or ?
Cost is a factor & I only plan to use 3 yrs. before I sell.

Doesn't answer your question, but if you're getting it installed in the ceiling space, make sure the valves are installed correctly. In our last house we woke in the night to find 500L of new water feature running down through four levels.

Re: Water Tanks
Polyethelene tanks are generally cheaper, lighter and more hardy. SS tend to be of inferior quality at times and can be expensive.
Whichever one you purchase make sure you install quality taps, valves and pipe work.
"Do it right the first time" is not just a saying but very good advice.

Re: Water Tanks
If it's outside, exposed to the sun , go for SS. If its under cover , it's your choice .

I think you'll find that 'stainless steel' is a culturally-variable phrase.
All plastics leak chemicals into water.

Re: Water Tanks
Also, if it's going into the ceiling space, give some thought to how it's getting in there. The poly tanks come in two pieces (generally) and can be flexed into difficult spaces more easily than the SS ones.

Re: Water Tanks
I had stainless steel 1,500L fitted on the roof outside about one year ago..... Absolutely no issues and pleasant to have free warm showers as the tank is in direct sunlight most of the day.
I would be cautious off plastic for various reasons mentioned, but guess it really depends on location of tank.

I tend to sleep in the nude. Which isn't a bad thing except for maybe on those long flights.
