ER Visa for US Citizen Under 55 Years Old in Cambodia
Re: ER Visa for US Citizen Under 55 Years Old in Cambodia
I seem to agree with you in some respects.
But Tarndog put in the effort of the gameplay going into the tigers lair.
Good effort from him seeking what is right and honest. But! the rules that appy, regards the letter from the embassy is applied, knowing most if not all embassy's won't do this. (Unless there are changes I am not aware of).
Always "hope" but never "expect".
Re: ER Visa for US Citizen Under 55 Years Old in Cambodia
Stopped into the visa agent's office yesterday, and explained that I'd come to get an understanding what documentation is needed for my ER renewal coming up in a few weeks. (I'm under 55)Tarndog wrote: ↑Thu May 23, 2019 10:27 am Just got back from the immigration office across from the airport, after trying to get another renewal of my ER visa.
I was told that there are 2 ways to get a retirement Visa: #1: go to the agency I have used in the past, and have them prepare my renewal (for close to $300); #2: get signed documentation from my government embassy that I receive a pension or social security, plus get a residency certificate, and return to the immigration office. I was told by the guy there is no other way.
Of course, being under age 55, #2 presents a problem, as I'm not eligible to receive social security and will never get a pension.
I asked him what special powers the agency I've used in the past has, since they're not able to document my social security or pension eligibility either. He bit down hard and refused to break a smile, knowing full damn well the (almost $120) difference is corruption.
Since I cannot force the USA to give me social security early, I explained that something didn't seem right that I was essentially being forced to play the game. He said what game? After explaining to him again what he already knows, he replied by asking me how much a visa to America costs, to which I replied,
"but a visa for America is the same price no matter which place you go to get it. "
I asked if they would accept a letter from my embassy saying I'm retired and living off my savings. He said that would be accepted, if I could get it.
I saw this guy being a smug prick to others in line before me who were trying to extend their visas. People wonder why this shit is maddening!
She asked if I have an ER already, to which I replied yes, for the last 3 years. She then stated all I need to have is my current passport with my current visa and a small 4x6 photo. That's it.
Has anyone under 55 recently tried to get the letter of retirement from the US embassy recently? Any luck?
Or has anyone tried to pen their own letter and attach it? Sounds like someone had commented that this might suffice.
Re: ER Visa for US Citizen Under 55 Years Old in Cambodia
Just picked up my new ER visa from the Immigration office acrods from the airport today, good for another year.
I asked him to confirm that since this year I will turn 55 years old, next year when I apply for my ER visa renewal I would no longer need a notarized letter from the US Embassy. He said that no matter one's age, some sort of notarized letter (thus the reality of paying for notarial service) is necessary starting you have sufficient monthly income > $2500, so long as you are not using an agent to process your visa renewal.
Can anyone who has processed their visa renewal by himself, not using an agent, confirm or deny this?
Also, since I will be traveliing to the US soon for a brief 2 week visit and then returning back to my home here in Cambodia, I asked him if all lights are green now that I have a fresh new visa. He said that I'd need to visit a Cambodian embassy in the states to get permission to come back, even though Cambodia has reopened the borders. Again, can anyone confirm or deny this?

Are you seriously going to leave and to try to get back into Cambodia with all these new rules?Tarndog wrote: ↑Thu Jun 11, 2020 4:54 pm Just picked up my new ER visa from the Immigration office acrods from the airport today, good for another year.

if you comeback with the current restrictions in place you need
insurance to cover $50,000
covid free certificate
Deposit of $3,000 when you arrive and not knowing how or when you would get it back
possible 1-14 day quarantine at ur expense.
STAY where you are till all restrictions are lifted.
Curious; do you really receive $2,500 monthly or did you lie on the notarized letter you got from the us embassy?
if its the 2nd ur better off using an agent and not lying on a notarized US document
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

Where can I find the new rules? deposit I hadn't heard of. What else is there? Would it help if I have a copy of a US performed Covid test showing negative for the period i was in the USA?

beware, any covid-19 test MUST say "negative" and be an original, not an email, and, supposedly be rubber stamped and signed. People are getting all the way to PP and being refused entry and have to pay a fortune to leave on the next available flight.
Re: ER Visa for US Citizen Under 55 Years Old in Cambodia
My father is getting married in 5 days in Europe, I am in Cambodia now with my family, and there's no way in hell I'll be there to join them for the wedding. There's the insane ticket prices, the risk of traveling for hours and hours on a plane with infected people, but most important: the risk of getting stuck in another place than the place I live (Cambodia).
Just be careful traveling. Many are stuck in a place they don't want to be, and if you travel you might end up in the same situation.
Re: ER Visa for US Citizen Under 55 Years Old in Cambodia
Thanks to all for tipping me off about the very recent news on foreigners travel related to Covid. I think I'll have to miss my son's wedding. The process, muliplied by infinity because of dealing with Cambodian "authorities" sounds like more hell than I can endure.
