Just write job, employment, business, etc...do NOT write tourism.

For the visa, just fill out the form and say business for purpose. No communication required. Just cash.

To get downtown, easiest way is to walk out to the street and take the city bus. There's only 1 bus so you can't get it wrong. Bus stop is just outside the airport on the street a few dozen meters east of the train station. 1500 Riel. Given typical traffic its not usually any slower than a tuk tuk.

Train is too slow and only comes once every 2 hours. OK if you have all morning. Did it once. Never again. Bus is so much better as long as you aren't hauling dozens of suitcases.

Carrying your luggage out of the airport grounds to the main road and looking for a bus and waiting for a bus and figuring out the bus routes and getting from the the bus dropoff point to your hotel is easier than holding your hand up when you step outside the airport terminal building and getting the airport taxi to take you directly to anywhere you want to go?

Travel downtown from the airport? First timer? Transport not included with your booking?

Go out to the main entrance, start haggling. Worst case, $10. Best case I’ve had is $6? Laugh at anyone charging silly numbers, unless time or tiredness are a factor.

Visa on arrival. My experience
You’ll likely be surrounded by dozens to a hundred braying Chinese trying to trample each other. You’ll be hard pressed to be heard at times. The process is more akin to fast food-people processing, with low tech. You mostly get what you ordered, but check to make sure!

$35 cash.
A couple of passport photos- ideally this century, and your mug.
Smile, nod at the rudeness (that’s the part I have most difficulty with)
Move down to the next window, and wait to be called or trampled by the aforementioned braying Chinese.

I put 'business' on my form when I came in 2 months ago.

The fellow at the immigration desk read my form and confirmed verbally I wanted an ordinary visa and then instructed the folks processing the paperwork behind the counter accordingly.

Use Grab.
First time to the country and without a local sim/ internet connection, by far the easiest is the airport taxi. It may cost a few $ more but it’s worth it.

With a local sim/ internet connection, get Grab, or if no luggage, no jet-lag and trying to save the pennies, get the bus.

Unless your staying right near the train station it is a pointless journey as you’ll need a tuk tuk after.
