The trains to Poipet aren't running at the moment as they are doing more work to replace/strengthen bridges. Not likely to be running again until late December.

I need to do my first visa run. Is it possible to stamp out of Cambodia, wait ten minutes and then stamp right back in? YES. Lots do it at Ha Tien crossing.

I'm guessing no to the above. If i do need to stamp into vietnam will i be okay just arriving ( ive read where ppl say yes) or for sure do i need to book vietnam visa online or at Cambodian embassy?
Many people do an out and back at HaTien. No problem.
If you need a visa there are also consulates in Battambang, Siem Riep and S'ville.
Did it yesterday. 23 minutes of international travel and a new Visa, Too easy.

The train ride to Poipet has or would have a serious disadvantage. It takes the whole day and perhaps more important, you are unlikely to make it in time to still cross to Thailand. In other words, it would take another day off your 30 day allowance.

I forgot to add that I pay the motorbikes in Poipet 20 baht as opposed to 1 usd (33 baht). Works fine and the ride is anyhow 1.5km at the very most. People are happy to get Thai currency as that it is what they need.

Yeah I don't know why they bothered relaunching the service knowing there was still so much to do. But maybe it was just to save face so they could say they were up and running again. Presumably, when they're finished, trains will be able to run faster. 15 hours from Phnom Penh to Poipet is crazy slow. Add in an overnight in that dump... and I'm not why that even makes for a credible option for a visa run. ~$60 for a return flight to KL (8.20am departure... four hours in KL to pass immigration, have some lunch and a wander around, check in again and arrive back in PP at 4pm) is a breeze.

As long as the AirAsia promo fits in with your visa run schedule. A ride to Bavet should be not more than 5-6 USD, so maybe 12 USD round trip. Add another 5 USD for the friendly smiling Cambodian officials which you would not pay at the airport you look at 17 USD total plus perhaps local transfers in PP.

60 USD Air Asia promo plus airport transfers are more costly. The bus trip will be a bit shorter once checkin and airport transfer is considered. The bus will leave you with around 45 USD more in your wallet. I should add that food in Bavet is NOT good imho. Bring your own snacks, I always wait till HCMC.

Assuming he comes from the civilized part of the planet he wont need one. 15 days waiver, unlimited, 30 days off in between. Which means (!) the overland visa run solution might cover 6 months perhaps. If you throw in overnite stays in Aran and perhaps weekends in HCMC a little longer. After that it is at least 3x air asia to fill the gaps between the vietnam waivers (See below). If someone is forced down that road, he might like to use the airline option instead of Thailand earlier in case there is a promo that fits the budget and dont depend on that happening once the 2 Thailand runs are done.

The list is a bit misleading as the stamp out and stamp in dates might be the same which reduces the time frame by 1-2 days per 30 days. In sum, living this way sucks big time.

arrival PP 1 month
Vietnam 2nd month
Thailand 3rd month
Vietnam 4th month
thailand 5th month
vietman 6th month
NO MORE THAILAND

Ive decided to make my run next weekend to maximize my visa time allowences.

Going to cheap way too. So I'll take your recommendation of booking a bus to Bavet. Giant Ibis goes there correct?

Out of curiosity - why do a visa run to Vietnam when you can get a visa extension in Cambodia ?
