Upgrading My Current Cell Phone

Post by Newinkow »

I don't know if this post should be on here or in "Tech Zone". Mods feel free to move if needed.

A day before I was flying out to KoW, my nephew gave me his old cell phone. I think he said it was a Samsung S10 or something like that. Regardless it is "newer" then what I have: a Samsung S5 Nano. Interesting enough it was also my nephew's old phone. Before that I had one of those little flip phone type.

My nephew said the new phone is good to go and that it's been "reset/clean". I'm totally clueless when it comes to upgrading/transferring cell phone. I do know enough that what is store on my SD memory card is easy to deal with. Just pop it out and put into new one. I hope I'm correct on that point.

What I'm concern with is what's store on my local SIM from back home. I have all my personal contacts stored on it. I have some Apps that I depend on: ABA mobile, EVA mobile, WhatsApp, Viber, Signal, Telegram and a few other less important ones. Also there are some pictures on there I want to keep. What I usually do when I get here is pop my SIM from home out and install a SMART SIM. Then when I get home I pop out the SMART and toss away. Then pop back my SIM from home. When I do that it's seamless. My Apps all work. Contacts and picture seems to be there.

I will be get a SMART for the new phone but I will be popping my home SIM into the new phone when I get back. How is this going to work? I'm totally clueless. I assume I'm not the 1st person to encounter this issue.

Does anyone know of a good reliable shop, with decent English, that I can take to to perform this task? Afterwards I would like my old phone to be "reset/clean" also. It's going to be a chain reaction. Girlfriend will get my old phone, son will get mom's and someone in the extended family will get son's.

Thanks in advance for any advice on this.

Dr.Phone, a little pricey but they'll have English speaking techs and receptionists who will be able to assist you.

Do you have a Google account or similar? If so, then photos should already be stored there if your settings are right.

Thanks for your replies. Will give Dr. Phone a go.

Current I'm not configured for cloud storage yet. It's in the works when I get home and sit down with nephew.
