I heard EZ visas are being issued from 1st December. It came from a very, very high up friend who’s in a government ministry of some sort. I wouldn’t doubt his word.

Trying to enforce the "until they will be able to leave the country" is in the DoI's too hard basket ;)

Even the DoI are telling people who go to ask directly not to worry as they are still covered by the automatic granting of extensions and waiver of overstay fines.
That's interesting, and rather benevolent on the ministry's part. I suppose there isn't any health risk from people who have been here a while and haven't traveled abroad in the past 10 months or whatever. If the former tourists are still here and spending money it's no issue. If I were a tourist "stranded" here and being hassled by immigration officials I think I'd argue that it is the safest country in the world besides DPRK, and being deported would basically be a death sentence. They would love you and put you on the front page. 8-)

You must be very very sure that the visa you are holding right now is a tourist visa. Else overstayed fines would be crazy

:thumb: Ok keep us posted. For sure there are people in the same situation as you.
I met two Ukrainian guys who were planning a week in Cambodia before heading off elsewhere in Asia, and they were still stuck in Cambodia months later. They arrived on a tourist visa, but they did not want to return to Ukraine, and could not go anywhere else due to covid restrictions.
A lot of travellers are still in limbo if they don't want to return home.
Good luck to the OP and everyone in the same situation.
Good idea, straighten it out soon. You could be in deep trouble or you could be golden depending what you're willing to pay. By the way, your immigration jail pic looks like a paradise for kiddy diddlers. Freudian slip?

Read this on facebook from the Cambodian visa group.

Tourist visa update - as I know this is a common question.
This is from the immigration police who came to check my passport today.

1. Tourist visas are still on automatic renewal.

2. This will end "when borders open." They did not specify which borders.

3. They guess this might be at the end of 2020 or the first month or two of 2021, but they have no way to know for certain yet. But they said "sooner" if things continue to be good.

4. There will be a way at that point to change a T visa to an E visa for those who qualify for an E visa. This will probably involve leaving the country but they are aware of the difficulties that would be involved if a 14 day quarantine in each country would be required. Again, they know nothing for certain.

5. You must be registered on the FPCS app on a tourist visa, especially if you want any hope of changing your visa in the future.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

Automatic Extension until whenever... the earliest would be with a 60 day grace period so that gives at least until 01/25/2021. They implied that it would depend on when the CV stops so yes this could be a long time i could be here for free.

My personal preference... i was considering going to Hawaii when the vaccine becomes available to grab it, if thats a requirement for moving to some OTHER country besides Cambodia. However if places around the world are still on lockdown i could end up very well staying around here just to avoid being in lockdown. We will see...

As previously mentioned I was trying to cross a land border into Vietnam so for that border to be open for an American citizen that might seriously be a long time.

Ah, the old "my friend in high places said so", so it must be true  ....please enlighten us, what is this so-called "EZ" Visa your friend speaks of?

Yep...many people who entered on an E-type (Ordinary) Visa for the purpose of tourism or an extended stay wrongly assumed that they were covered by the exemption, and found out the hard way when attempting to leave.

No one to blame but themselves.
