Do you have a spare smartphone?

Post by rozzieoz »

Since coming to Cambodia I’ve maintained the philosophy that I can’t possibly help everyone, but I can help someone.

I never just give cash, I rather try to do something to enable the recipient to generate an income. My hobby is creating micro businesses for people - not for them to earn a fortune but at least enough to support themselves.

So this guy has a new moto and is super excited to start working. He’s recently arrived from the province and is polite, friendly and speaks English.
(I’m friends with his sister, he’s not just some random).

He received the moto yesterday along with helmet, the bike was serviced and stickers were replaced. It was a really good find.

However I didn’t factor a smartphone into the budget, I very stupidly didn’t consider the fact he may only have an analogue phone.

So here is my plea- Does anyone have a spare smartphone they can lend him until he saves enough money to buy his own? (I will be taking him to ABA to open a savings account). I will vouch for him and if anything happens to the phone, I will replace it.

Good on you. If each of us help a few people, we can make Cambodia a better place.

You can get smartphones very cheap. Here is one example.

Does he work as a moto dop or something else?

He has at least five businesses to go
and see about doing deliveries. He will be contacting them today. He has received one offer already, I’ve been very busy drumming up contacts for him.

sorry, not being offensive BUT
i dont have a smarty phone ....
he cant scrape together $25 for a used one and although you vouch for him, you come to CEO rather than lend him the spare cash to buy one?

the mind boggles....
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

I think rozzieoz is to be commended for her act of charity, a virtue lacking in many members of the forum. She should be haled not only for her generosity to young handsome locals but her kind offer of a free drink to us less desirable older expats as well.

He has an excellent helmet. The bike was not moving at the time.
You should know how passionate I am about helmet safety, don’t be a dick.

I will have the funds to buy a phone for him next week but he was really hoping to start work today.
I just didn’t budget for a phone this week, no need to be a ball breaker.

If it’s only $20 or $30 then obviously I can scrape it together. I thought I’d be looking at at least $200.
