That channel rarely has any sizeable amount of water in it and almost runs dry in the hot season. I've seen parts of it completely filled in at times to build new bridges. It seems there is some sort of pile-driver operation going on there, it's right near a sewer run off you can see to the left so might be related to that.
The growth of that part of the former river has a corresponding negative affect on the north banks of Chhba Ampul. The water has to go somewhere.
