Tiny ant-like things

Post by xandreu »

I'm not sure what they're called - I call them ants but they aren't ants really. Probably not even related. They're much smaller, don't bite and generally keep themselves to themselves.

However, they do occasionally latch on to a particular area in my apartment and once they do, they invade in the thousands and can just be really annoying. I accept that I'll never get rid of them completely and I get it that there are some things that just go along with living in a tropical country etc.. but does anyone know a good way of getting rid of them when they invite the entire town over to party at my place?

A picture would help, but any ants (or friends) I've come across I tend to track back to the source - follow the trail - and RAID the heck out of that spot.

Second, they tend to go for one thing - sugar. Anything with sugar I seal up in an airtight container, that's an easy one. But one type of bug was fascinated with my rice, another with my cashew nuts - and nobody wants bugs on their nuts! So those too I now put in air tight containers.

No real bug run-ins after that.

I think you're referring to 'rice weefils'. Those can feed on grains and nuts and breed like crazy. Had 'm in a bag of rice last week.

The problem is even chicken won't feast on these tiny (3-4 mm) bastards...

No, they're not rice weefils. Here's a picture I just took of them. They're so small it's hard to get the camera to focus. I've never looked at them this close before, and now that I have, they do look more ant-like than I imagined. But they are much smaller.

I tried 'bau rak' and all I got was blind stares of misunderstanding....
Will try again next time I'm in PP to arm up for the December war against the fire ant explosion in my garden.
