Things to bring for cooking at home
I lived in Thailand for over a decade and love Asian food, but I get bored with it. However, (this is mostly for U.S. expats) imports are fairly expensive compared to the U.S. I am moving to PP for at least six months and want to bring some inexpensive cooking ingredients with me. All of these items I went to pack in my second suitcase and bring with me from the U.S. Tell me if I am crazy.
1. Flour Tortillas : 1 .00 a pack of 20. I will put these in a freezer and use them as needed.
2 Mexican/taco burrito spices. 3 for 1.00
3. McCormick gravy packets. 3 for 1.00 dollar. I love these when making a pork roast or chicken breast
4. American Bar b Q sauce. I.00/1.50 a bottle for some OK sauce. A must have with ribs and chicken. I slow cook it on a stove top or electric cooker.
5. Assorted dry spices: paprika, cilantro, basil
I love to cook and I love to eat but is any of this stuff worth bringing. If you or bored please send me local PP prices. Thank you
p.s. what else cooked related items might I want to bring.

All those are a lot more expensive here.

Yes you're crazy. You can find just about anything you want 'here'. Taking a bit of your favorite sauces and spices is not a bad idea though as opposed to starting over; that is, if you really think you're going to be cooking much. Spices and gravy mix is light and takes no space. The flour tortilla's, do some research and learn to make your own if you love to cook. That one seems a bit weird.

Also, its better to learn to adapt your diet and start adopting some local cuisine. It grows on you and it a lot more affordable. When I first cam I couldn't imagine eating bor bor for breakfast, now I love it. Insisting on keeping a western diet is a lot more expensive, sometimes more so than back home wherever that is.

Flour tortillas are super easy to make. Real Mexican chilli powder is impossible to find.

If that's what the guy wants to eat, there's nothing crazy about it. Tortillas or taco shells are about $6 for 20, and those McCormick Gray packets are $1.80 or so, taco spice is around the same.

Thank you for the comments and input. As stated, I love Asian/local food but not 3 times a day 7 days a week. I now know what I am bringing and thanks for the PP prices. Now all I need is some basic kitchen equipment and to get my market shopping groove on.

My wife cooks Mexican food 2-3 days a week. Everything is available here. The only thing I personally like on my juevos rancheros that I can't get here is Tony Chachere so I always bring back a container each year.

also like the alfredo packet, ( make with broccoli, chicken, mushroom and noodles)
I brought some sloppy joe packets when i went back last year
Bring a small round metal ball that u put loose tea in.
I also get bored every meal with asian food, been eating it for half my life..... so i ask, why , "its better to learn to adapt your diet and start adopting some local cuisine" ( unless ur forced to cause ur poor) for those claiming to live on $500/month LOL
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST
