And now back on topic, please wear gloves, leather work gloves, and real shoes, its ripping the skin off your knuckles and feet that turn what should be minor crashes into major problems. I know very few follow this advice, too inconvenient they say, just do it.

Well don’t knock it until you tried it , the only pizza I ever order is only the hawaiin , no other .Jamie_Lambo wrote: ↑Tue Jan 12, 2021 10:55 amI would say Pineapple doesnt belong on pizzas, but now a friend showed me last year a new trend is Banana Pizza, i didnt believe it to be actually true in real life, but its on the menus here in Kampot, im lost for words, Banana on a pizza, seriously?!pissontheroof wrote: ↑Tue Jan 12, 2021 10:27 am Those are great examples of what I meant ,
And how about hawaiian pizza ?
Why do they use american money here and not your “ pounds “ ?
i mean i hate pineapple/pineapple juice, think its revolting, so thats why i dont like it on pizza, but i actually like bananas but, on a fucking pizza?! At what point in someones life do they think thats a good idea? How long has this actually been going on?!
I have never tried bananas but I’m willing to give it a shot in the kingdum of wonder
And by the way , we normally use mate for a pair of pigeons or our lover
I think it sounds gay when guys call each other “ mates “

I suggest you rent for a few days and see if you can adapt to the traffic. You have to do the thinking for any other driver near you. Ive been driving here 15 years and still curse everytime I go out. Just pretend they are all trying to kill you and you will be fine.
Re: The perils of riding a moto?
So 'Sods Law' gets us all in the end. After all my blathering about riding a moto is no problem etc etc, last night I was almost wiped out twice. First time I was on Rd6 passing between a bike-drawn trailer and a 100 yr old Khmer on a bicycle, when the old dude starts to move across, pushing me into the trailer and ignoring my horn and cries of "get out the way you old c*nt". Lucky I had that bit of acceleration I just scraped past them. The second time I indicated left and started to turn left when a big fat barang on a Scoopy came roaring past, on the left, narrowly missing my front wheel by millimetres. I gave him the customary salutation but he was long gone. So my advice - stay away from old dudes on pushbikes and fat barangs. Apart from that, safe as houses.

Re: The perils of riding a moto
mate you say the american words are more descriptively accurate, you are right, but youre examples are poorBrody wrote: ↑Tue Jan 12, 2021 10:50 amplease do.
On the whole, I find US words for things more descriptively accurate
Some examples:
British / US
rubber... eraser
post... mail
holiday... vacation
lift... elevator
dummy... pacifier
telly... television (tv)
torch... flashlight
bin... trashcan
underground... subway
Anyway I don't know what your point is Jamie............but lets get into an across the pond vocabulary war.......sounds thrilling.
Though James, you may want to name a proxy.....I don't know if a bricklayer stands much of a chance in a lexical debate.
eraser... you "erase" it by Rubbing it out with a piece of rubber! hence why its called a Rubber, you can erase something with Tip-ex too but thats not a rubber lol
Pacifier is an English word that they continue to use in America, in England we call it a Dummy because its a Dummy-Teet (fake nipple)
Telly is just a shortened version of Television
Lift/Elevate are 2 and the same word
no one really calls it the underground, we call it the "Tube", we already use the word "Subway" to describe a walkway under a road
ahhh yeah i forgot the word Flashlight *cringe*
Bin is just short for Dustbin, when you sweep up with the dustpan and brush, you put the rubbish in the dustbin, theyre not made out of metal so we would never call it a trashcan, again dont see how its more descriptive
Mean Dtuk Mean Trei, Mean Loy Mean Srey

Re: The perils of riding a moto
As in if a non native English speaker was learning and didn't have the background context to the word.
US words tend to be more singular in meaning, ie.......pacifier.........vs dummy? Dummy means stupid as well as a mock-up item where I'm from.........whereas pacifier has a singular meaning.
Same with rubber and eraser
Anyway these discussions never end well.......to each his own......you keep your rubber and I'll be content with eraser.

Re: The perils of riding a moto?
Read CEO news, or any news these days, is a peril in itself. Whilst CEO news does a great job imo picking up the good news stories, I think nevertheless Khmer news like many countries seems overly negative and focuses on accidents and crime.
That I think can skew anybody's perspective.. and I know myself it took me many months to actually bite the bullet and get a moto here. My friends at the time seemed to be equally divided between those that thought it was a good idea and those that didn't for all the reasons already mentioned in this topic.
After selling my moto to GF's sister last week, I could only do without for 1 week and can happily report I have a nice new one. Oh, and by the way, I never take the moto out at night anymore..I used to, but I've seen too much crazy shit on the roads at that time to put me off.
I do wonder how this thread might have gone with a glass half full topic such as ''The advantages of riding a moto?". Would the discussion outcome have been the same? Just a thought..

You will soon get bored of having to bicker about the extortionate price every single time you take a tuk tuk or get a xe om. You don't want that.
I've used Grab in Saigon and Vung Tau and use Passapp on an almost daily basis here in Phnom Penh. Always know what the price was/is before confirming the pickup. Sometimes can't believe how cheap it is.
