Aside from the semantics. It is $10 per day overstay. I paid it at the airport when I had overstayed a few days. (I was at the airport, taking my return flight.) I got looked at sternly by the passport officer, who stamped me out and pointed me to a desk just behind passport control, where I was again looked at sternly, "told off" for overstaying, but it was all smiles when I handed over 3 crisp $10 notes for my overstay. No receipts, nothing. Just a wave and a smile. This was in June this year.

My apologies, I can't help you with land crossing processes. I can only tell you of my own experience.

A few days isn't a problem, I believe there is a 30 day cut-off point now though where they might get tough. I've overstayed more than that a couple of times, once because I was waiting for a new passport and the other time because I was a lunched-out moron and forgot to hand it in to HR in time.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

LOL. Yep, best way to get a nice send off from the immigration blokes is to overstay.

Back when i was using tourist and ordinary visa's, and the fee was $5, it was a good business plan if you were leaving the country within a week of your visa expiring. Cheaper than renewing.
I quickly came to figure at least one of the ways airport immigration guys get so rich. Sure, they give you a duty-bound frown at first, but you soon realise they are in fact quite happy about it.

I was was a bit fixated with a seasonal otter situation one time, and lingered too long in the bush. Overstay was 20 days and i didn't sweat on it. Sure enough the boys at the airport were beaming. 100 buckaroos.
I have never felt like such a VIP traveller. They almost laid down the red carpet out to the plane.
And I never had any indication that i got a black mark in my copy book for overstaying either. It might be different these days.

I've been back, briefly, since my brush with the immigration gestapo. Definitely had no issue returning. I wouldn't say I felt like a VIP after paying my overstay, but it wasn't the most uncomfortable experience I've ever had. Now, if we were to discuss the faux pas of overstaying in the Middle East by 2 months (a genuine error), which could have cost nearly $2,000, now that's a very different story...

The 5 star hotel at immigration is $10 per day. You get free board and lodgings and a free haircut thrown in. Publicity and a spot in the local rags is a bonus. Expect much derision on CEO.

The "beats" are reserved for VIP guests who can afford it. Kidney whips with wet towels cost 50$ up and the good old sole of the feet smash costs $100 per foot.

Book now to guarantee your place

Choice available - Sao Sohka on 1-800-FREE or Net Sovouern 1-800-TRYME take your pick

If it was Mish - in the photo all the grinning immigration cops, and him, would be sitting around a low table, feet up, drinking good whiskey and swapping stories about wild nights on the town.
Personally i reckon we should pack him off there quicksmart :D he'd love it too, 'make it one big party.

I'll send in a couple of bottles of good stuff if it ever happens, Mish - and buy a bottle of champagne for myself.
