For comparison ONLY, u can live on that amount in thailand ( but u'll need more to get the retirement visa)
£10,870 per year, works out at approx £905 per month, and £209 per week
so $15,294/year $1,274/month AND??? £209 per week or?????
Unless by a massive coincidence the OP is getting £10,870 per year and the exact amount divided by 52 per week i'd guess that he was just breaking it down in different ways (however, I think then he may have said he was getting £21k)

Cambodia is way more suitable thailand a country in military control which doesn't allow one to smoke dope freely or even browse porn.

plus a strong baht makes it a difficult country to retired.

so i have corrected his statement...

£10,870 per year, works out at approx £905 per month, OR £209 per week

The only consideration is medical care. But given the derelict state of the NHS that'll only get worse with the exodus of EU nurses and doctors, there again you'd be better off here.
No, there's more considerations. if you want to live on this amount of money (say 1.250 US a month) all unforeseen expenses should be considered. Inflation (I'm pretty sure the UK pensions will not keep track with Cambodian inflation which is about 5% officially, but I see much higher numbers in real life), healthcare, but also other unforeseen stuff like accidents (what if you park your frontwheel in Bong Thom's new Landcruiser?), an occasional visit to the UK because of something happening there (and buying a ticket flying out this night) etc etc.

If you don't have at least 1 year of income in savings I would not do it.

yes thas a good point, Cambodia is plagued by alot of unusual diseases like typhoid, food poisoning, hand food and mouth etc etc

plus the doctors are un trustworty, they are simply money grubbers, most khmers cross to thailand to get treatment as they know Cambodian doctors are terrible quality.

Thank you to all that contributed to this thread. As regards to how I would spend my spare time, I would NOT be spending my time sitting outside a 7/11 drinking cheap beer, like some I have observed in Phnom Penh on past visits.( No offence intended here to anyone ) I have hobbies that I could hopefully still maintain in Cambodia. FLB Thanks for the advise regarding The Elections in July. I am very fit for my age with no health issues, however medical care is a worry. Are you serious about taking a teachers job ?. I don't have any qualifications. Thanks for correcting my previous error, it is OR £209 per week. Thank you all again.

I don't think that level of income at that age would allow you to buy any kind of medical insurance.
Also you need to consider that the British pound/USD will fluctuate so your income in USD terms will do the same.

I may have another source of income. I have a beautiful house here in England, ( No Mortgage ) that I would not dream of selling. However I could put it up for rent. The problem is finding the perfect person/couple who will not turn it into some sort of drug den. The rent-able value is estimated at £520 per month. Still not enough for medical insurance, but at least a better way of life out there. I have already interviewed 4 potential tenants and not one fits into my trustworthy category. Maybe just coming for 6 months is the way forward. Suck it and see. :newbie:
