Another little bug bear for me is the storage of said meat next to veg. Very unhealthy practice. Not sure I've found it anywhere else but Cambo. Normally, in other countries I've visited, the meat section is on its own away from veg and even other goods. Just another reason for me not to use the markets.Maybe it's a French practice? I doubt it though.

At O'Russei and the other markets it is fairly well separated. The outside stalls are unfortunately different. I would expect in general a clear separation for pork because of the Muslim customers.

I can speak only for O'Russei by now. Vlad was kind enough to point me to the wholesale market but given the small volume i purchase, the trip, and on top of that the rather small fridge it did not seem worthwhile once I had found some decent sellers.
The veggie seller outside the building along the side street are definitely shameless in over-pricing. On the other hand, I got some decent fresh water fish for the kittens during Chinese new year at that spot when the large building was shut.
In the market prices can vary dramatically. 10K for 1 kg chicken and 20 K for the same 10 meters on. So go figure why....

Veggies I can get from 2-3 places and I do not check others. Prices like at decent vendors in SHV. Eggs are actually fresh. 400 riel a piece.

I fully understand that such threads are frustrating to many. Especially if you're an old hand. For that very valid reason the thread is named as it is and the purpose clearly stated. To avoid frustration or depression, it would be best to avoid this topic. On the other hand, there is very little current info online. This is a real matter for expats new to PP, at least those who cook, and the replies are a real help, well most are. Secondly, it is a bread and butter topic for any expat forum. That's a place people would usually turn to.

QUESTION:
Like in SHV they ask for 20K for not so great mushrooms. So 20K seems the real price, I figure. The price seems a bit over the top given the often low quality of the product. Maybe someone has a better idea/info.

This might be a question for Hanno:
Where can I get a piece of decent Blackforest Cake (Schwarzwaelderkirschtorte)? I know, I m dreaming.

Perhaps it would be better to have an advice section like Housing, Food, Health etc. with distinct subheadings. Here the grocery goers could congregate. This might also vitalize the housing section which is pretty dormant. Mixing it with business etc. might make less sense than having an advice/service section.

Oh well, I've always paid 500R, or 4500 for 10. I was wondering where they came from, so I once asked the woman I used to buy them from "do you have chickens?". A Khmer woman customer told me "she gets the eggs from the farm", then translated to the seller what I'd said, at which point they both pissed themselves laughing. It was funny really and I liked that I brightened up their day by playing the part of idiot Barang. But tbh for all I knew she could have been keeping a dozen caged hens on her balcony.

The shop a/in O'Russei I got the eggs from had to much merchandise for a balcony venture. They seem to sell mostly to-resellers. It was nice that they accepted my 2000 riel purchase. :)

Otherwise I m getting more items from the small stores in the alley and discuss kittens with them.
