Re: supermarkets and markets
Great. So pretty much what one has to do in smaller towns in the Phils. Get up before dawn and then a coffee at the Chinese dumpling place around the corner from my place
Thanks a lot!

I was under the same understanding, SV would get most of its produce from Vietnam. Has for KK who knows! The people at the border may get their small cut. But boats are used a lot in the area to and from Thailand. I would have thought the shops selling import goods would want to keep the costs down. I hear for the shops selling those type of goods, they pay 50% Tax.John Bingham wrote: ↑Sat Feb 03, 2018 2:29 pmI was under the impression that most imported fruit and veg comes by road from Vietnam?pczz wrote: ↑Sat Feb 03, 2018 2:06 pm Snooky is cheaper because the stuff comes round the border from thailand. You can go watch them shipping it in by Koh kong. Big trucks into the SEZ, then tuks to the beach and a quick boat ride to avoid the bridge. Offload by the muslim village into small trucks off to snooky.
I have found some cheap stuff in the Khmer fruit and booze shops, just south of Sihaouk on monivong. Khmer will not pay tourist prices and they seem to have a liking for pasta and so on. these places look like supermarkets but half the windows is fruit
Posters writing about this subject should try running a restaurant, and then try to keep the price down for the customer.

Someone mentioned Brussel sprouts...I purchased some fresh Brussel sprouts from Super Duper TTP a couple of days ago, cooked them up in butter and bacon, served with a roast leg of lamb studded with garlic cloves and fresh rosemary, mint jelly, roast potatoes/pumpkin/carrots/onion/garlic and pan gravy...best roast meal I’ve ever had in Cambodia!
Re: supermarkets and markets
That sounds yummy PSD. Did you accompany with all the fine wines on offer in good import shops?PSD-Kiwi wrote: ↑Sat Feb 03, 2018 5:54 pm Someone mentioned Brussel sprouts...I purchased some fresh Brussel sprouts from Super Duper TTP a couple of days ago, cooked them up in butter and bacon, served with a roast leg of lamb studded with garlic cloves and fresh rosemary, mint jelly, roast potatoes/pumpkin/carrots/onion/garlic and pan gravy...best roast meal I’ve ever had in Cambodia!
It was me with the imported sprouts from France, only tinned though. But I did not look around for fresh.
Would like to get my hands on some spinach. Tinned would be ok. Never seen any fresh in KK. I would like to put a meat and spinach curry on my new menu

No wine, just beer. I’ve purchased baby spinach from several places in the past, goes good with eggs Benedict, but it’s been a while and can’t recall exactly where sorry.

Re: supermarkets and markets
thanks. I saw those products. Prices were high. Pencil had a comparable product at about half price or a little more. As I said above, their pasta is also comparably well priced as is some jam. Those were the products I used for the test.(┛◉Д◉)┛ wrote: ↑Mon Feb 05, 2018 5:30 am maybe something tomato to suit you there http://www.thaihuot.com/our-products/gr ... -food.html

As I have lived in both chinkville and PP I know that prices here are much higher,I just put it down to it being the capital city.
I tend to eat out,but if I venture to the super markets my choice is Bayoun. But you can get thinks in lucky cheaper, and believe it or not in the mini marts dotted round town.
I'm lucky that my pie supplier gets me 2k of cheese for 18$,bloody good Scottish cheese.
Like I say being single the worst thing is shopping for food, eat out if you can afford 5 bucks a meal.
