Suitable hostess bar to take a curious friend

Post by StroppyChops »

Mrs Stroppy and I have an Australian friend (lady) coming to stay for a couple of weeks. She's broad minded and curious without being even slightly judgmental - can anyone recommend a suitable hostess bar to take her to where a) you mongers won't feel threatened, b) the girls will be comfortable with the friend and Mrs Stroppy being present, and c) a little less seedy than the places some of you lot might drag yourself out of at 9am :D ? Our friend won't be trawling, just curious.

Haha, I think you should take her to the sleaziest one you can find!

See you at 9AM.

I'm betting there's no equivalent for the walk of shame here, so, what, like, the walk of "morning!"? :)

I'd suggest Loco Bar in street 130. And as I've sold out of it recently, this can be considered an impartial view!

It has a lively atmosphere, lots of friendly but definitely not pushy girls, and the music is neither hip hop nor deafening. Plus the toilets are fantastic.

A lot of couples go there and don't feel threatened or disgusted. It gives you a good idea of a hostess bar without the sleaze.

After that if the friend wants more, I'd suggest Oasis on street 136, or Airforce on street 104. Both are busy hostess bars packed with girls.

And if your friend is that way inclined, 69 Bar on 136 has a couple of stunning girls who will go out with western female customers

Thank you. Exactly the sort of information I'm after. I'll let you know how it goes, she's here at the end of the month.

I'd start off somewhere like Shanghi or Larry's... and then ease her towards the sleeze.

1st Drink - Shanghi
2nd Drink - Larry's
3rd Drink - 136
4th Drink - 104
5th Drink - 130
6th Drink - 104
7th Drink - Cyree Bar
8th Drink - Swiss Bar
9th Drink - G Pub (should be around 3 am)
1st hit of Meth - With some Vietnamese Hooker you meet at G Pub

You can just improv it after that point.

:D
The cedar roasted asparagus has good chew. I don't know how to enjoy it, so I'll Instagram it instead.

I think it really depends on what you want her to get out of the experience. The Bars on the lower end of 136 (across from Lux hotel) are pretty tame and seem to cater to tourists. I have seen couples in there before and it does not cramp their style at all. Lemon Lounge, Oasis, VVIP all quite friendly. While all the bars have some girls for take out, the emphasis is much more on hustling drinks than Johns. You will likely feel comfortable in these places. Keep the drinks flowing and the girls will be happy to chat up your friend, play pool, Connect 4 etc.

The bars on 104 st have more of a "red light vibe" to them and feel a bit more sleazy. I think that Airforce Bar and Rose bar are the bigger ones there although neither one suits my taste. Oscars has live classic rock some evenings and of course there is "Cavern" which is sort of a hybrid English pub with 4 or 5 girls working there. I think your friend might feel like a fish out of water on 104 street --- with the possible exception of Oscars.

For real sleaze go up to the Golden Sorya Mall area on 51 st. Really Skinny Ice-head hookers, lady boys, and the dregs of barang land pairing up or waiting to pair up. It does not get really crazy until after midnight but you can go early evening and the show is already starting. It's sort of like a covered outdoor beer garden -- so you can just grab a table, order some snacks and a jug of beer and just observe the show without participating (just watch your belongings and surroundings).

If you are there late night you can always go around the corner to Pontoon and dance the night away. Yea it's full of hookers but a lot of expats go there just to dance. I hear rumors General-Z is well known in those parts.

I think FreeSocrates mentioned Loco Bar, Shanghai bar, and Larrys. Loco Bar is very popular with posters from a certain forum. The latter two are (I believe) owned by the same person. All three are somewhat more upmarket and better managed than most hostess bars; but I think in the case of Shanghai bar you might feel you are impinging on the fun of others a bit. Larrys -- to me ---- is much more restaurant than hostess bar. A good place to eat and chat. Not wild or much to see.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

RD
