I admit that in my head you read that in your best David Attenborough voice, and I thought of geckos circling a moth...Rain Dog wrote:Sometimes you get two Johns nervously circling around the same girl, eying each other warily. The Mating Dances and Rituals at GSM can be quite fascinating.

I was contemplating a Documentary along the lines of National Geographic Channel actually.
"The Aging Barang senses the opportunity and with surprising agility swoops in on his prey, the ritual is quickly concluded with the flash of a fake Rolex and a Mention of $20. The Younger, less experienced, rival slinks back into the shadows to await another opportunity ... "

Taxi, we'd rather walk. Huddle a doorway with the rain dogs
The Rum pours strong and thin. Beat out the dustman with the Rain Dogs;

Cathouse is OK to take a Western woman to. The girls there stay behind the bar and don't dress in an overly slutty manner.
Shanghai would also be OK.
Larry's would be a waste of time for this type of excursion, it's not a hostess bar, more of a drinking-focused place for middle aged American guys who like to smoke and flirt with staff.
Howie's is also very foreign female-friendly and might be fun if you are out after midnight. It's not really a hostess bar but the girls there really do hustle lady drinks.

That place is a trip! I would suggest it!PhnomRon wrote:Cathouse is OK to take a Western woman to. The girls there stay behind the bar and don't dress in an overly slutty manner.
And I agree about Larry's.
It's a great place, but wouldn't be very fun on your itinerary.

Re: Suitable hostess bar to take a curious friend
Suprised no one has mentioned the Black Cat on 51st its been my local for about 9 years since it opened. Its an inside / outside bar - having an outside section of chairs and tables and the bar itself is open to the outside imo its a low key hostess bar. Given its position it seems to avoid much of the rif raf which tend to bypass it going from Walkabout to GSM. It seems to attract western couples of various ages despite being a hostess bar. My wife likes to go on music nights (Mon Thir). Hostesses are very polite and friendly to couples. Heres one saying hello

I believe it was Leibniz, in his discussion of the problem of evil, who referenced this duality as "the worst of all possible worlds."PhnomRon wrote:

I'm surprised no one hasn't mentioned Blue Chili, not a "hostess" bar per-say but interesting to see the different side and shows Fri-Sat if I'm not mistaken.
