Suggestions on Salary

Post by grvsekhri »

Hi, I have an offer from Cambodia for USD 6500 per month, currently I am working in Singapore and getting SGD 6500 per month. Is it good idea to move to Cambodia for USD 6500 and Can i have good lifestyle(Renting service apartment and having maid for cooking & Cleaning) at this salary?

Appreciate any guidance and inputs.

I dont really know Singapore but I would think that your cost of living would be a lot lower in Cambodia and hence your disposable income would be a lot higher.

Finding a maid is not to difficult although there is quite a range of salary depending on experience and language ability.

You can certainly live a very nice life and save a good chunk on that kind of income here in cambodia

Yes. You can live well on that and probably save money. However, you will not have exactly the same lifestyle level as Singapore for the same wage. Phnom Penh is like the SEA alter-ego opposite of Singapore, (dirty, crazy, nothing on time), so maybe do some more research to see if it will suit you before you decide to move.

The biggest expense IMO is kids, especially if you put them in top-end schools.

If no kids that is enough wages. With kids, it depends on where you will educate them.

And you are on Singapore dollar 6500 (USD circa $4.7K)? Not sure of the tax on salary in Singapore but seems you will be getting a raise and Cambodia is the cheaper cost of living so you will surely have enough.

Thanks everyone for ur inputs.

Taxation in Singapore at my Salary is 7%, i understand that in combodia it would b flat 20%. Correct me if i am wrong.

I know Cambodia is nothing like Singapore. The reason why i want to move to Cambodia is so i can live a bit luxurious life while saving good sum of money since cost of living is lesser. I can live decent life in Singapore with SGD 6500 but can't afford luxury.

Can anyone give rough estimate of monthly expenses if want to have below services.

1 service apartment in good society.
Maid for cooking and cleaning
Gym membership
Cost of eating indian vegetarian food outside in case maid cannot be arranged for cooking.
Travel expenses

PS: I am single, cost of living would be 1 person only.

If you are going to be living as a resident in Cambodia you will have a blended rate, less than 20%.

You will come out to around 15% or Circa $1k in tax.

If you get a serviced apartment $700-$1,100 you will have included maid, gym and pool. Gym will be limited so you may need membership outside.

Indian food, I would rather order instead of asking a Khmer maid to cook it.

You will save plenty being single on those wages.

I'm running out, someone else may estimate other expenses but I say you will save plenty.
