Suggested laundries in PNH?

Post by Georgina »

I have given up on laundresses until I find someone who does as good of a job as I do. I spend half an hour every evening doing my laundry by hand because I can't find anyone meticulous and conscientious. It's enough to drive me to drink. I mean get married.

No, I don't like dryers in laundromats (they exist here). No, I don't like 'dry cleaners' either. Expensive and toxic.

Here is what I get (4/8->8/8) at almost every commercial laundry I go to...

1. Stained: Garments come back with stains they didn't have before!

2. Smelly: Unclean smell or weird chemical powder smell. I expect the real smell of subshine and fresh air.

3. Folded: I like my clothes on hangers.

4. Moist: I expect my clothes to be sufficiently clothesline dried in the sun

5. Wrinkled: My clothes are natural fibers not polyester. Folding is absurd especially when other customers clothes are packed ten-high on top of mine See #3.

5. Cold water?: I use either the warm water shower or even boil some water in a kettle to add to it. Don't get me started about no hot water used to wash dishes.

6. Soap 1?: I have seen the amount of soap used. True, if you use too much it takes four rinses, but too little and clothes don't get clean from traffic and dust.

7. Soap 2: Washing powder is garbage even if enough is used. I use liquid dish soap.

8. Indiscriminate: Linen, cotton, silk? Different treatments. NOT.

BTW, I am not just a fussy old bachelor (though this is true too) - I Had a specific medical need (scabies) which requires a laundry protocol of three steps...

1. Boil garments in water (how many seconds or minutes I don't know, but it's not just get some sort of warm water and dunk them once)
2. Wash as normal
3. Hang in sun for 1-2 days (hmm, I was confused with bedbugs on step 3, but hey solar purifucation can't hurt)

Laundry came back looking like it was the same wrinkly pile (except folded) that I left. Except smelling of insecticide.
'No, can't be. Certainly the laundress friend can't be retarded or wilfully laundering contrary to explicit instructions'
Apparently so.
I verified with my nose (chemical smell) and a dunk (yellow). I just spent three hours with my my travel size tea kettle doing everything over myself.

I foresaw trouble when I said I was willing to pay $10 for such a high standard custom service fir a medical need (gesture: scratching at my limbs).
"Oh no, maybe 2 dollars"
Reiterating the very precise need for boiling water and sunshine didn't phase her. She had a friend...

I won't mention this total waste of money to the kind cook who 'helped me' by because it'll just embarrass her and compromise the business relationship I have with her that is very satisfactory in one field.

Lesson: Don't ask your doctor for a referral to a gardener. And visa versa'

Are you renting an apartment? If so ask the landlord to provide a washing machine, or buy one yourself, and do your own laundry...or just continue washing it by hand. If you want something done right/your way, then just do it yourself.

Judging from several of your posts, I get the feeling you aren't exactly cut out for living in Cambodia, or any other developing country, but I wish you all the best anyhow and good luck finding what you need.

thats the question... do they wash their own clothes also in pitch black water or is it only the laundry from others...

there may be a washing machine in front of the shop.
if i wouldnt see my laundry in it for the full cycle, i would have doubts.
just because... this is what is happening, actually.

time to ponder about a new definitino of "attention deficit disorder", me thinks...
or what means "cut out for living in cambodia"...

Didn't you give up on seamstresses the other day? How are you going with vegetable sellers?

This was beautifully written, Mrs Stroppy and I both had a chuckle at your word-smithing.

Seamstresses going OK, veggie sellers OK. Cook perfect.
