Spectacles

Post by juansweetpotato »

Where can I buy high astigmatism spectacle lenses in PP? I used to go to Poly Optics, but they say the company they buy their lenses from has discontinued anything over 3.1 and they won't be able to get anymore in for about 6 months. Not interested in the shops that want to overcharge.

Also, has anyone ever got their glasses by post from Vietnam? Or perhaps had them sent on the bus?
TIA

You could try Modern Optics on the corner of street 360 and Monivong. I've had several pairs from there. If you need anything over 3.1 they will order it in. Think it was about a week.

Nobody is. Luckily these are nowhere near as ubiquitous as you seem to believe. Look around and stop blaming market-forces for the prices that are demanded. There is no big conspiracy, businesses are just trying to make profits.

Are these shops still bullshitting and saying they get the lenses from Japan or Singapore? Modern optics tried that on me, so I asked them how the shop in Toul Kork gets the lenses within a day.

No answer.

Damn I was hoping that Modern Optics may be different. Only honest one I have found so far has been Poly optics. Still more expensive that Vietnam, but at least they don't try and charge me $200 for the lenses alone as the dickbrained operation just over the rd. from Poly did. Wish I had a dollar for every optician in Cambodia that tried to tell me they imported their lenses from Japan and Singapore. Christ if they weren't trying to makes a few cents extra by ordering them from China rather than Vietnam, I would only have to wait a day instead of 2 weeks.
So unless anyone else knows another place like Poly, I guess I will have to wait till I get to a proper country again.

I don't remember the name of the place in Toul Kork near the telecoms tower, but many people on both forums have recommended it, both for speed and price.

Went to Modern Optics yesterday. Frames $17.50 OK. Lenses $75 and 10 days!! Poly Optics were $40 for lenses and same frame - 10 days. HCMC around $15 for lenses and frame and 1 hour. All lenses are plain single vision, and over 3.1 cylinder for astigmatic corrections. Anyone know of a good place in Tuol Kork? Someone was mentioning a place but could only remember it was n the TK area.

That is what I was thinking. Do you have them DHL'd to your home address? or would I need a PO box?
