I can't believe Siem Reap only has 1 vote!

go out past the port to HE Beach. you can use the little cabanas free.
better pack a lunch as there are NO restos- a few places to buy cold drinks only.
the fish port is really fascinating, they are drying and pickling fish on a large scale.
quite interesting and the people very friendly.

You don't have to love the beach, but you can't deny the cool breeze near the ocean is a constant relief from the sweltering heat. How many times can one enjoy the temples in SR? And the swarms of millions of tourists and the traffic they bring make it a less appealing place to reside. SHV is not in the same league, tourism-wise (yet).AE86 wrote:Two votes now, I don't like the beach.General Mackevili wrote:I can't believe Siem Reap only has 1 vote!

^^True, but having lived in a tourist area for a lot of my life, I've grown used to tourists and they don't bother me.
It's actually purely for the reason (my vote) that I could hop on a flight to Phnom Penh if I wanted to. I can't take buses, and 6 hours is too much for "frequent" trips for me on a bike/car.
Though then again, it was just choosing between the two. I'd live in Phnom Penh any day over both, haha.

Lol. There's a certain pro-Sihanoukville bias on this forum. Me, I hate beaches. Hate them. I like swimming pools but sod getting sand in everything you own and pretending that it's enjoyable. I also can't believe anyone would ever get bored with the temples... there's loads of 'em and they're all brilliant and endlessly so. I'd rather take an overdose than live in Snookie but each to their own. Siem Reap is home and that's the way it will stay; in fairness - I wasn't struck with Phnom Penh either.
Siem Reap has better amenities than Snookie, it's got better food and places to go and Snookie has sand. Snookie also has rather more sexpats, meth heads and Russian mobsters. I'm not knocking people's lifestyle decisions - they're just not my preference.
