Sihanoukville Power Outages

Post by Sailorman »

Anyone in the know on this one? Why are there so many power outages in Sihanoukville? The Chinese mega-watt power plant just outside of town provides uninterrupted power, so why can't the Cambo electric company keep the power on? It used to be that their diesel generators weren't big enough to supply all of Sihanoukville power and also the governor's/general's houses, so what's the excuse now?

Are you talking about the newly rebuilt dam near Koh Kong? Thats quite a distance away. A lot can go wrong along that far a stretch. Has the reservoir even reached its design capacity yet?

I think he is referring to the coal fired plant between SV and Kampot. I think there is another one past HE Beach?

Maybe has something to do with the wall collapse last week that took out the power lines on Victory Hill. Before that the power seemed reliable but since then lots of 5 mins outages.

Victory Hill, road going down to the beach.
Happened 2 weeks ago and power/cable lines were repaired the very same night with definitive fix the day after.
Nothing to do with the recent power cuts.

when you see the spaghetti bundles of power and comms lines festooned like an LSD spider colony might execute- is it any wonder?
generation is not the problem- it is transmission.
