if she's referring to being pestered by local men like in Egypt then don't worry, foreign white women in south east asia are totally off the radar from both local men and foreign men :D

bag snatching was indeed an issue but so is in Phnom Penh.

electricity can be cut for 4-8 or even 12 hrs a day and you better have a diesel generator in your house.

500$ per month in snooky is definitely upscale !

the sleazy side is not as bad as they say, nothing even remotely on par with thailand, but it's visible and of course western girls don't like it as foreign men have no reason to date western girls when there's wall to wall cambodian and vietnamese pussy in any bar.

i remember seeing big tables with 10 lonely foreign girls drinking beers alone.

Just get a hotel. There's decent places near the beach that'll probably do it for $300/month. It might get boring for you and then you can bail to elsewhere and not be locked in. Beach Road & Zana House come to mind. Down around there you can walk to most everything. Believe it or not eating out is usually cheaper here than cooking at home. I live in Snook and think it's less dangerous than PP. I'm a big fit guy though. Just don't be hanging on the beach > 12 alone & hammered. Riding your bike between Otres and Ocheteaul alone late night as a woman is a no-no as well.

Maxem Property is a real estate company in Phnom Penh. If you check out their website; http://www.maxemproperty.com and send them an email of your requirements, their very competent and friendly staff will provide you with options.

I have referred at least a baker's dozen of inquiries over to them.

There's also IPS, Key real estate, VTrust, Rindhra, Khmer Real Estate, it will be handy to get http://www.yp.kh as an app on your device, or http://www.phnompenhpost.com on your RSS feed.
There was no sarcasm or malice intended during the making of this post.

Where do you get this information from?

I live here, in Sihanoukville, and when I add up all the outages in the last year my electricity has been off for at most 40 hours. That is an average of less than 10 mins a day. If you can't live with that you are better off staying in the West.

ID is absolutely correct. The juice goes out a lot, but not for long. Less than a minute more often than not.

I love our 2 bedroom 3 bath top floor for $250 a month a lot more than my old $400 a month, Russian Market place. It's all relative what u find and want.

I never thought I'd be leasing half of someone's house over in Boeng TomPun in a Khmer dominant area. I love it. Got trees and a neighborhood feel.

You know you can go very rock bottom on a studio so I will say this; I wouldn't pay over $400 per month for one. It would have to be a top notch little studio to pull $400
I'll give ya 500 Riel for it...

Thank you so much, this is all awesome information and so so helpful. $400 seems pretty reasonable. I have been talking to a friend and she says in S'ville you can't live near the beach, is that true? And if there is beach you can live near is there a quieter end of it?

Thanks for the hotel names wackyjacky and the real estate link VLayHo-ho-ho.

Sitting lonely at a bar while all the boys check out local women sounds a bit depressing though. And would someone really push you off your bike at night? As in a motor scooter? Oh and how much are they to hire for a month?

Hi Anchor Moy, Cambodia is Cheaper than Thailand and less in your face with the sex industry - right? So how is it you suggest Thailand is an easier place to be? (I hope that's not too silly a question).

Also does anyone know if studio apartment are the same price in beachside Thailand?

I stay in Jomtien, Thailand and I'm sure you could get a studio for the equivalent of 12,000 baht a month close to the beach. We're not talking an idyllic quiet getaway beach such as In Sihanoukville, you're talking about a more commercially developed location which may not be your preference. With Pattaya just over the hill the benefits are first class food and restaurants, cheap and easy transport, ease of living ie good cheap Internet, and good shopping. Main negative is it is just an extremely busy area.

Forget the remark about the sex industry, you can live perfectly well anywhere in Thailand without it being forced down your throat.
Yes sir, I can boogie, I can boogie, boogie, boogie all night long.
