I am in Phnom Penh at the moment and would like to rent an apartment or room until the scare is over and I can go work in China. I was offered a job in China which would include housing but I am unable to apply for a visa due to the Chinese Consulate being closed. As I do not know how long this scare will last I was thinking I should find a place to rent until I can get a Chinese Visa. I was curious about how to approach landlords about this. Should I be upfront about this situation or should I simply rent a place as usual and then either inform them when I have my visa that i need to break my contract or simply disappear? I would prefer to have somewhere where I can cook my own meals as I am tired of eating out. It is hard to find restaurants that have ceviche or lasagna. I really want to make my own soaps again too.
If I were to rent a room my limit would be 100 a month and if it is an apartment where I am on my own 300 would be the maximum.

wiht so few tenanats around its a renters market. Most palces will, i suspect, give a you a month by month contract. if you book 3 months it will be cheaper.

i am thinking i should simply get a 6 month or year contract just in case the coronavirus scare is longer then a month or two. If i get a visa to China within that time I can deal with the problem at that time. Landlord likely deal with tenants who have to break a lease because of a job

You should be able to get a monthly contract. At worst 3 months followed by mobthly renewal. I had no problem doing that before corona. I was in a stuio in bkks2 with lift, cable tv, internet and secure parking downstairs and a balcony, fridge freezer and small cooker. Paid $330 a month incluing electric on month by month

I have never been treated poorly by Chinese people. Chinese always seem to go out of their way to help me out when I need it. When i was living in China the police helped me find a hotel when the hotel I wanted to stay at was not allowed to take me. Chinese always seem to want to take photos with me. Even the people I work for would go out of their way to make certain I was comfortable at home. The problem i had so far was with my ex-girlfriend. in 2016 while i was living in Philippines my girlfriend at the time wanted to work on a cruiseship and I did not want to wait 5 years to marry her. Once she left I told her sister I wish her sister would break up with me so i could be free to meet someone else as 5 years in way too long to wait for a woman to make up her mind. Plus I tend to be an honorable person so if I say I am going to marry a girl I feel obliged to do so until she ends the relationship. That is what happened. Then the day after the Khmer girl i would date for the next 4 years contacted me and I told her I could come to see her in December. On December 6th 2016 I came to meet her and our first date was at the Aeon Mall we went to see a movie and then after dinner, we stayed at the park until 4:00 am. I have never been on a date that lasted less then 3 hours and with Asian woman, they usually last 8 to 10 hours. Within a week we were a couple and we were together every single day. except for working there was not a day that went by that we did not see each other. However, 6 months later i proposed to her and was planning to pay her bridewealth a year later. fast forward to Nov 6 2019 a wedding had not taken place and we broke up because she said I was a liar and never supported her. She never told me what I had lied about but I am thinking it is likely about money.
Before I met her coming to Cambodia was not a thought on my mind. I was thinking of going to Viet nam because I have more experience dealing with Vietnamese than i do with Cambodians. Plus at the time I spoke more Vietnamese than i did Khmer. China is more fun for me because I can speak Mandarin and Uyghur. Plus my friends and a doctor ask me why I did not date Chinese because of my obvious love for China. I must admit that I think I should be going to Russia because that is where I feel i should go. Especially now seeing that I saw real estate I would like to purchase in Russia. Sadly the coronavirus interrupted things for me.
