postmen and scooters
Re: postmen and scooters
Done. Thank you Hanno. Sometimes a few good people can make the world a better place. I've helped people in trouble before and this is one of those cases that i think i can do it again - unless im the one that ends up in strife.
the more i think about it the more chance there is that i'm engaged. she did tell me that her father had approved of me. now im not so sure what he approved.

Sounds promising....helpppp wrote:"papa sick, me pain, me no food, me need rice, me need medicine etc".
Probably because there aren't anything resembling postmen or letterboxes here.i am 100% sure she did not know what a postman was even when i sent her photographs of letterboxes and postmen.
Silence, exile, and cunning.
Re: postmen and scooters
actually this was inappropriate of me . these are not the things she says. the first time i met her she actually lent me $20 and did not know if i would come back. I was stunned. and i watched as she handed $5 to a legless, armless man on the street. and she got annoyed at friends who tried to make me pay for things. I was way out of line with these comments. her only fault so far is her generosity. She pays the tuk tuks more than i do and i fear that any money she gets will be spread around people close to her. She does not have a bank account and i am sure that today was the first time she had ever been into a bank. It took an hour to explain what a bank was and finally she had to pass the phone to an english speaking tuk tuk driver.John Bingham wrote:helpppp wrote:"papa sick, me pain, me no food, me need rice, me need medicine etc".
Does anyone know if there is fee-free bank accounts for locals. I need her to get one.

I live rurally, where education is pisspoor and only a very few get beyond grade 10, but usually grade 7. However, everyone knows what a post office or bank is. I smell troll. If this isn't the case then one Cambodian family has found their sucker, using the usual bait.
As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.

Hey, hey, hey.... maybe its just a language thing. But i am sure she had no idea what i was talking about. As for her taking advantage - i sent some money via Western Union 3 days ago. She collected it today. Now, i live in the west and i have money but if someone sends me money(other than blue chip businesses) I try to collect it asap. I would definitely not wait 3 days if i was poor and money hungry.taabarang wrote:I live rurally, where education is pisspoor and only a very few get beyond grade 10, but usually grade 7. Maybe I an gullible but i think this family is authentic.
Re: postmen and scooters
I've never met a Cambodian who would give $5USD to a beggar on pub street.
Tuks tuk? Is she a disabled pensioner? Few Cambodians take tuk tuks unless they're pregnant, elderly, need the hauling capacity, or there's more than 5 and they can't fit on a motodop. When they do, they don't pay $2-3 a ride.
Troll, or sucker. If the latter, pics or GTFO.

Yep generous to a fault. Why all authentic poor country girls are like that.
