He's a science teacher ffs.
Apparently those that can go to Phnom Tamao, do; and those that can't teach science...
Or something like that.

Huh? Not sure who you think is trolling. I've never heard of it either, but here's more info for you:

Betelnut Tours

Small, personal trips around Phnom Penh. Take a daytrip to the Phnom Tamao Wildife Rescue Center or spend 2 days in the countryside with a homestay, Feed and interact with a variety of rescued and endangerd animals at the rescue center or see some ricefields, go hiking near a waterfall and spend a night at our family farm. Both tours include delicious homecooked meals and everything else you need. The size of the groups is limited, to give you a more personal experience. The area around Phnom Penh is varied and offers many different sights besides temples and Khmer Rouge history that most people associate with Cambodia. We want to show you some of these happy places.

The buses going out to provincial areas tend to go out in the early morning and there are returns in the evening, but they aren't at all reliable time-wise and are usually crammed, and the mountain is 5km from the road. It would be far less hassle just to hire a car for a few hours. You also have somewhere to keep your bag and snacks, a local driver at your service and somewhere to go to get away from the gangster monkeys from Wat Phnom who were relocated there a few years back. It and will be far cheaper and more comfortable in the end.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

Bus station

Post by britscienceteacher »

Thank you Sirs. I think I understand now. Please don't consider me impudent but I still have the other half of the question that I'm curious about - the bus station. In Ho Chi Minh City the back of the map showed bus routes which was absolutely invaluable in getting around (although admittedly it was for travel within the city - it's a much bigger city though). I'm looking for similar info here whatever way I can happen to find it (I don't read Khmer), perhaps even an online resource on bus transport around Phnom Penh (I think that's the correct spelling this time). I was very grateful for all the suggestions for parks.

Thank you for reading.

The tours I found are out of our budget

Post by britscienceteacher »

I found a tour, but for the three of us it would be $330. I think that we could all take budget flights somewhere for that.

Image

I saw in The Lonely Planet that the entrance is $5 for adults and $2 for children. There's quite a big difference for us, so I was really looking for an alternative that would suit our budget. We don't need any special tour. I just want to show my boy the animals.

So, was I trolling?
Just pay a tuk tuk or hire a taxi for the day or perhaps hire a car if you don't like 2 wheels.
Oh and see, you can even play with the elephants if you take the tour.
