Re: Pharmacopoeia: Assisted Sleeping
My mother is a Dr. and she says melatonin is great for insomnia when everything else has failed. Never know what could work.StroppyChops wrote:Someone else suggested melatonin...
I was on that Ambien shit for a few years.....until I drove around my neighborhood in my car and ended up crashing slowly into my mailbox. Woke up the next morning with no memory of this happening. Never took Ambien again. Scary shit.
Valium is one of the most addictive drugs on Earth. Don't believe me, Google that shit. DO NOT start taking valium on the regular for sleep. The half life of Valium is crazy once you begin to learn about it. The withdrawals for valium can last months and you almost need to do a "step down" detox over a period of 1 year.
My mother has had sleep studies performed on her brain waves because she too suffers from Insomnia. Like I said, she is a healthcare professional and swears by melatonin.
To be honest, the best thing I have found for myself is Marijuana. I smoke a joint before bed and within 20 minutes I am out. It helps to shut my brain off and keep the random thoughts at bay. ( I am not an Insomniac, but I have major trouble sleeping overall)
I'll give ya 500 Riel for it...

Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

Re: Pharmacopoeia: Assisted Sleeping
Melatonin will do in a pinch but it is basically a hormone that smooths out your circadian rhythms. Great for insomnia due to jet leg or irregular sleep patterns. May not work as well for other sleep issues. I personally found it effective for inducing sleep but never found I got great quality sleep using it.
I personally prefer herbal remedies where possible although they may not always be strong enough if you have hard core insomnia issues.
At the mildest chamomile, lavender extract, and lemon balm all have sleeping benefits.
My choice is Valerian root. One or two 500mg capsules about an hour before sleeping always works for me. Readily available and not that expensive. The only Caveat is that it has very mild psychoactive properties which can make your dreams much more vivid. I like the effect, but if you are prone to nightmares or night terrors it might be better avoided.

Taxi, we'd rather walk. Huddle a doorway with the rain dogs

Worth a try, even as a supplement - anyone know what it sells as here?Sir_Quality_U_Feel wrote:My mother is a Dr. and she says melatonin is great for insomnia when everything else has failed. Never know what could work.StroppyChops wrote:Someone else suggested melatonin...
Had thought about but not seriously considered gunja, not sure that's a journey I want to start. Experienced a fair bit of second hand smoke in prison, and tried a pipe of the legal stuff in Oz ("little" marijuana) and had a nice three-day mellow, but limited experience otherwise.

It truly is a life changing plant. There isn't really a down side if you just smoke an hour before bed. No groggy feeling in the morning.StroppyChops wrote:Worth a try, even as a supplement - anyone know what it sells as here?Sir_Quality_U_Feel wrote:My mother is a Dr. and she says melatonin is great for insomnia when everything else has failed. the ucare on sihanouk opposite ibc does have melatonin and a lot of supplements for inflated prices of course.StroppyChops wrote:Worth a try, even as a supplement - anyone know what it sells as here?Sir_Quality_U_Feel wrote:My mother is a Dr. and she says melatonin is great for insomnia when everything else has failed. dont buy the "TR" (time released version) if using it for sleep onset.
get you some magnesium as well, its allegedly the best sleeping aid for a restful sleep.
if you are looking for things, nobody has, then try the pharmacy next to the lucky on sihanouk.
think they are 2nd expensive ones, right after pharmacy de la gare.
this pharmacy has quite some supplements too, but im not sure about their pricing, but negotation is possible, though very limited ($0.50-$1).

Thanks SQUF, but not my thing. If I ever get glaucoma (or a hint of pink eye) you'll be the man!
Thanks potty, we use that pharmacy on Sihanouk so I'll ask about it next time i'm there. Never thought to haggle with them, though.

What's this about "binding" with malt alcohol? Take it with whiskey?
