Pharmaceutical: WTB Gabapentin

Post by StroppyChops »

After being an idiot and benching the tuktuk for a tyre change the other day my diabetes-related neuropathy has intensified to the level of waking in tears at least ten times a night because "oh my God, I'm on fire".

My GP introduced me to Neurontin (Gabapentin) but at 75c each and needing multiple of them a day, medical costs are starting to be a burden.

Does anyone else use these/have a cheaper source?

Note - if you need to Google neuropathy this might not be the thread for you.

why would he prescribe you gabapentin when carbamazepine is superior for diabetic neuropathy ?

read here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gabapentin

[/A further analysis of previous studied showed that the agents carbamazepine, venlafaxine, duloxetine and amitriptyline were more effective than placebo, but that comparative effectiveness between each agent is unclear.[5]

The only three drugs approved by the FDA for diabetic peripheral neuropathy are the antidepressant duloxetine, the anticonvulsant pregabalin, and the long-acting opioid tapentadol ER. Before trying a systemic medication, some doctors recommend treating localized diabetic periperal neuropathy with lidocaine patches.

Drowsiness.

I drive a tuktuk in Phnom Penh.

Seriously. Actually, as of this afternoon I drive two tuktuks in Phnom Penh, and the new one is an 8-10 seater.

Also, the Wikipedia entry doesn't say C is superior to G, it says there is no evidence that G is superior to C.
