Penalty for late renewal of work permit

Post by BDT92 »

What is the penalty for a late renewal of a work permit? I've been working online for 6 months, not for a Cambodian company. Now I've started work as an English teacher in Phnom Penh and I must renew my permit. Is it true that the penalty is $10/day for non-renewal? Or is the penalty $125 only? The information is very confusing. Why would I need to pay a fine of only $125 for not having a work permit, but have to pay a fine of $10/day for not renewing it on time? Does anyone have information on this? There's no way I'm paying $1800 in penalties for this!

Seriously, you told them you have been working online? I hope NOT.

However, the visa you have (one year, multiple entry?) may mean that you are presumed to be working...in which case...the school you work for is responsible for registering you

I think you are correct it is $10/day...time to lose your passport, perhaps

I have not yet attempted to renew my work permit. I searched online today to find out what I need to do to renew it, and I was shocked to see the penalty fees. How is it that if I didn't even have a work permit at all I would pay only a $125 penalty? This makes no sense.

I have a 6-month multiple entry EB visa, not 12 months.

$125 is NOT a penalty. That is the OLD price for a work permit. I believe it is more expensive now.

The penalty is what you pay if you don't have one...around $10/day now.

Can anyone confirm what the penalty is for not RENEWING a work permit? I have one already, but it expired in December. I've found a lot of different information on the internet, and nothing is clear. I want to know the penalty for not renewing it.

$125 is the penalty per year in country on an E-type visa EOS (now specifically the EB EOS) without a WP.

$10 per day is the fine for not applying for your annual WP before the deadline (31st Mar, although this year they extended it an extra month with no penalty for previous years without a WP).

Where is the official Prakas stating the above? I have no idea sorry, it appears, as per usual, there is a lot of misunderstanding, differing interpretations, and a fuck load of inconsistency on behalf the officials in charge and also the people running the WP website... Basically it's all just one big clusterfuck!

Very much so. I heard a rumor that they are thinking of raising the price of a work-permit to $600. :?
Silence, exile, and cunning.
