I didn't think Cambodia had those requirements, unlike Thailand.

Anyone?

They do have those regulations. I can't remember the exact number though.

I hope that's more than wishful thinking. A collaborator like this should disappear. Or at the very least one of Tony Soprano's boys should have a talk with him about his health and the future. I'd bet anything he's doing this to get on their good side. Maybe he has some project he wants backup for. In any event, while I would not leave it to a $500 Khmer hit man. I'd deal with that fuck one way or another. That's poisoning a potentially huge well there. Tho my real desire would be to rehab one of those french modern shells near the water that no local with a brain seems to have already DONE by god.
I don't think it'll be long before all the ocean areas get upgraded, poo poo it all you want OD but it's gonna happen as population increases, international pressures on citizens, etc. cause many more ppl to move around. Now the Russkies KNOW grease, and they'll use it. Either this guy is some kinda mutant doo gooder or he's got PLANS for his lil neck of Kampot and wants officials smiling when he comes thru the door for permits, etc.
On a side note....punch THIS up on the puter the next time Khmer pop by staff make you crazy....KPIG presents KFAT

that's right, the Everclear is in play.

ASEAN is a big sword floating in the sky. Cambodia would have to at least APPEAR to be STARTING to employ real systems that other actual advanced members have. They'll do this for a while for the extra big bux they can make but at some point they'll have to either go legit or drop OUT. I mean it's all conjecture that if they band together they'll all prosper. Might be some do and some have to slit their throats, metaphorically speaking. I mean look what happened when World Bank money started talking...no more weed in markets (in a place where it was normal, just an ingredient for soups and foods), pedo squads watching any old single guy that moved, etc.
Methinks there's the next 5 yrs or so will be rife with rumors and worry on our side. But ASEAN could mean regs that the old guard robbers won't want EITHER. So for time bein, they're gonna smile, shake their head and say YES YES, no problem.
Bottom line tho is that for them to really come into the present, they'd have to let outsiders kinda run the country (shades of the French). If Thailand keeps getting more an more shirty the influx of bodies will be a lot more fish in the barrel to shoot at and the influx of ppl discontent with their home country ain't gonna drop anytime soon.
Plus side is that mostly the influx of whoever is cuz Cambodia is the only cheap easy place to do things anymore. If that stops they'll cease to be #1 I bet. If they tighten up their VISA regs like other ASEAN countries they'll be SOL I think. And I think they KNOW this. Low cost and ease is their only selling point. It sure as fuck ain't the food or the clean streets.

I do find this as an interesting double standard. If you mentioned an expat working with the police to curb purse snatchers/motorbike thieves/etc he'd get pats on the back and so on. If you mention one helping them enforce immigration laws, which already exist and are mostly just ignored, on the expat community he gets a shun.

I'm not a huge fan of it either, and admit the double standard myself, but still find it to be interesting psychology.

Word of mouth is a few people have been hit here in Sihanoukville with it as well, and the new immigration police did a "visa survey" of all of the expats living on victory hill a couple of weeks ago. This may not be a fast transition and have a lot of inconsistency (in true cambodian style), but it does seem like it's a transition that's happening.

If it comes down to needing an employer letter maybe CEO will do some hiring ;-)

Also, the immigration police officer who is regularly being the "face" of the police in SHV on facebook, has been putting out lots of information (such as this). I have just posted the following on his facebook wall to see what his response will be:
A lot of expats have wondered about the situation with people who have been here a long time and the need for a work book. Many of them live on money they had in their home country already or are retired and so do not actually work in Cambodia, and never received one even though when we pay for the visa we have to pay the extra $100 for it. A lot of the rumors are that we will be charged $100 per year from the date of our first visa extension, even if we were out of the country for many years in between them.

Could you give any information on this?

Looks like Sihanoukville are cracking down on overstayers aye, saw that Police chief you mentioned OD post pictures on FB of 2 Russians they'd arrested for overstaying (1 was almost 3 years iirc), now awaiting deportation.

Yeah, funny bit is a lot of expats are now crying about it. You wanted them to weed out crime... overstaying is a crime.
