Latest rumor is that there will be a major shakeup in the visa procedures in October. :beer3:

I still think we just have to wait and see.

These rumors have come up every year numerous times since I've been here.

Yes, it will eventually happen, but there are so many false warnings that it's impossible to take any of them seriously.

So, I predict, come November, NOTHING will have changed.

Ordinary Visa Renewal

The only question is whether the work permit will have any requirements other than a health check and $100 a year. I tend to think not, at least for a while. In which case it shouldn't affect retirees and self-employed people too much, but if we have to show proof of employment it will get stickier.

If push comes to shove I imagine between us we could register a company and then employ ourselves as consultants? Bingo, requirement met.

I know someone who has done just that, however you do need to follow the law to the book to get them off your back. Meaning proper work permits and all.

Only costs him just under 700 a year for business registration and permit. ( I could be wrong but this is what he has told me. Obviously there are more cost associated with owning a business).

My understanding is that this isn't possible because registered companies need to have a certain ratio of local to foreign hires. 10 to 1, maybe?
